Doom 3 - Quake & Quake 2 Conversion

A few months back Carmack stated he was going to release Quake 1 and Quake 2 on the Doom 3 engine for free (after the Doom 3 release). Has anybody heard anymore about this? I would love to start playing Quake 1 and 2 again online, but I want to wait until the engine upgrade happens.

There's a free .NET version of Quake 2 out somewhere.

i've never heard of this, and it might be a bit odd considering quake 4 is contiuning the quake 2 story on the doom3 engine.

good marketing actually. how about a totally new release of quake 1-3 on doom3 engine to compliment the release of quake 4..... its a realistic idea.
