doom 3 preorder only?

So I went into EB today and preordered my copy of D3. Should have it in my hands on Tuesday. They said it's pre-order only though so id can have guaranteed sales? Is that true? Are they going to then stock shelves? Hmm. Speaking of hmm, I need a new vid card. GF3 Ti200 doesn't cut it anymore.
 
I would think that he meant that they are only handing out the preorders on Tuesday, but the stuff about Id and sales makes no sense. Activision is doing all of the shipping and selling as they are the publisher. Nobody ever knows what they are talking about at any of the game stores anyways so take it with a grain of salt.
 
It's listed as pre-order because it's not on the shelves to buy it yet. You can try to just buy it Tuesday, but unlike a pre-order, they won't guarantee it's in stock.

In this case they do. The associate should have explained it a little better, but he's right.

Tuesday would be 8/3, or the ship-from-vendor date for Doom3. For pre-order copies only, EB Games is paying for same-day air to the majority of it's stores. Meaning, it will be available for purchase on 8/3 if you are a person who pre-ordered.

You may luck into a copy if someone canceled their preorder, but by and large the general population will not be able to purchase Doom3 at EB until at least 8/4, when the 'regular' copies come next-day air. Even then, supplies will be limited as the bulk of the game will come UPS Ground.
 
For EBgames that may be true, many other retailers already have the game on site and will be putting them on the shelf on Tuesday or Wednesday.
 
Terry thanks for explaining. Got my preorder anyway, but I was just wondering. This is one game I'm not waiting any extra days to play.

I wonder if maybe it was just stores close to iD's HQ? At any rate, it certainly wasn't a nationwide phenomenon.
