Just got done playing through a few levels of doom 3 and let me just say its awesome so far, now on to my video card. I just want to tell all the 5700 ultra bashers out there that my bfg 5700 Ultra plays doom3 smooth as silk at 1024x768 on high detail.

I could bump the resolution up more but I only have a 17 crt so there is no need. Does anyone else with a 5700 ultra play doom3 yet and if so how does it run for you?

sure, if you have an A64 3200+. What is the rest of your system like? I think that the 5700u is a great deal of a vid card, but that sounds very much like the rest of you system is helping it out.

I am running a xp 2500+ with a gig of ram (I know the gig helps out) Framerates are well above 30 any higher is unoticed anyway. Not bragging just when I got my video card I came on here and you guys made me feel bad about my purchase and now that I see I can run doom 3 in its glory I am very happy with it.

I Mainly want to get others to reply that have a 5700 ultra and if they get the same performance. Keep the flames away please.

OMG PWNED.

Seeing as the 5700U is 25-30% slower than a 9700PRO, I doubt it's very playable at 1024x768.

According to HardOCP your beloved 5700U is only playable at 800x600 at high quality. They don't know though; they only review computer hardware for a living.

It's ok, we all get pwned sooner or later. I guess for you that was a pretty harsh way to start out on these forums.

Welcome to AnandTech.

Nice link thanks. Like I said before it depends on the system. I know my pc is not even close to the top of the line, all I am saying it runs smooth very smooth at 1024x768 on high settings. I was very excited about it and wanted to share this with you guys and see what other get with a 5700 ultra. I do have my card overclocked to 496 core and 992 memory (I probably could go higher but I am happy at where it is right now.)

The 5700 ultra is very good at overclocking and any review you read about the 5700 ultra you will see this. Thanks guys for replying and I read through these forums every day and they have helped me out alot in the past. Thanks again.

P.S. I dont feel that a picture humiliated me or anything. My opinion the guy has to much time on his hands. (As do I)

I bought a BFG 5700 Ultra too! I got it from Best Buy for only $119 or something. It was on clearance! I even posted it on Hot Deals but the moderators locked it because I had a title like, "As hot as you mom.." or something.

Well anyways, I still haven't installed it because it's too long! It bumps into my hard drive!

Nice Title, lol. I payed $210 for mine when it first was released :-( Oh well I had the money to burn then. anyways it is a long card especially with the rear power input. I had to move my hardrive down. What video card are you running now?

my friend plays it with a 5700ultra. his is weird though. it actually plays better on 1024x768 than it does on 800x600. i didn't believe him but i went over and saw it. it gets really choppy on 8x6 when there's a lot of activity going on, on 1024, there's almost no noticable slowdown. this, of course, all being done on high detail. i play it on my 9700pro, there's a little slowdown in 1024 high when theres a lot going on on mine. :(

Most people are fine with frames at around 20....the manager at one of my local ebs has a 3.5EE coupled to a 5200 and he likes it perfectly fine...everything is smooth as silk according to him... so yeah, not everyone needs frames at 60+...

I have a friend that has a Celeron with a PCI 5200 and he says Far Cry is smooth with settings on medium and 1024x748...Hes about the biggest gaming freak I know of....spends 6+ hours on his pc daily and that includes days where he has school...

Hey Axe, all razzing aside, it's nice to see you getting real world playability from good budget hardware. I'm building a PC right now and wanted to buy a 5700u as a make-shift GPU until the 6800's come down a bit and it's good to hear from someone who isn't just trying to regurgitate the benchy numbers!!!

Benches are fine and all, but it all comes down to how the games play in the real world...

He would be much better off with a cheaper CPU and a higher video card. At least for gaming anyway.

The 5700u ran it just fine for me, sure, a better card would be great, but now that the 5700u's are getting cheaper, they are GREAT replacements for the legendary TI 4200 :) (I saw a BFG one for $130 at chumbo.com)

I dont understand why everyone gets these low frame rates in Doom 3 with a 5700 Ultra?

My system is as follows:

MSI KT3 Ultra 2 Mainboard
Athlon XP 1800+
40 Gig WD 7200rpm IDE
640mb DDR pc2700
Gainward GeForce FX 5700 Ultra Gold DDR3

My framerates are about 40fps when fighting a guy or two in a decent sized room and around 85fps @ stand stills with no action(vsync peak 85hz), or running around in small rooms with no action.

Nothing on my system is overclocked, and i use the nvidia.com reference drivers, 61.76

This system is about 2 years old now, and originally had a GF4 Ti4200 from XFX, so the only real upgrade i did was the video card.

I am wondering, whats my current bottle neck?? The CPU?

Is anyone else annoyed when people come in and say "Doom3 is perfectly playable on xxxx... I find it very smooth" then they don't even post their timedemo score so we can get an idea of what they find as "smooth"? It just miffs me a bit.

I wouldn't call my 9800 Pro "smooth as silk" at 1024X768 HD, so I seriously doubt that card runs it like that. 40-50 fps average, sure, but it can chop up during intense attacks. Perhaps you meant to say "smooth as a hedgehog" or "smooth as a porcupine" ?

It's ok though, this isn't the first instance of internet hyperbole ;) . I hear that there are people who actually lie all the time on the internet :p ;) .
