hey, just wanted to know what ur thoughts are on the pre-release alpha (leak) of doom3, if u've played it....

I find the game awwweeesome, far better than any FPS yet.

the game gives me max 60fps and a min of 15fps, with an avg of 40fps on my 9500pro/xp2100+ setup..
jest wanted to know what rates u ppl out there were gettin ?

also, i've hrd that the final ver will be run almost thrice (!!!) as fast as this one, which translates into 100+ FPS for me !

any comments ?

P.S: just in case u like 'playing' 3dmark, and wanna compare, i get 12,501 on 3dmark 2001SE.

It's an alpha. Nothing more, nothing less. You can't base any marks you recieve in alpha test as real world. There is very little optimization in that Build of Doom3. IIRC, it's a pretty old build from like 9 months ago or just before the R300 even made it to the market in August.

you'll need a quad-hammer setup with 8gb of ram and a r400 radeon :p

honestly, the only person who could possibly know right now is john carmack.

Exactly. I've tried the alpha. To say it's rough is being somewhat kind. There's just not enough of it to make any type of early assessment at all (other than it's pretty to look at). And just because it's pretty, doesn't make it a great game (ie. Unreal2). Gameplay is still a VERY big question mark.

Back to hardware requirements, I personally think the final build will be more than playable on most machines with a GF3 class card and above.

Any speculation on a non released/optimized game, is purely speculation. If you want to run Doom3 smoothly, the day it comes out, have the fastest machine on the block, its pretty simple. Most ID games were ahead of the curve when it came to hardware, I don't believe Doom3 will be far from that.

it should run on a 9500/9700. I mean when RTCW (think id make it) came out that thing ran great on my p4 1.8,256mb ram,geforce3. I could pump the details to almost max and it ran fine. Look at the graphics. They were awsome. I think it ran so well cause it was optimized perfectly. So if they optimize DOOM3 it should run like a charm
