Doom 3 graphics did not impress me as much

The reason why I wasn't so impressed by the graphics in this game was that there was more focus on the character details and shadows rather than putting in detailed textures for the background floors and walls(they look kinda too plain and when u zoom in them they look like pixels etc) as well, you know something like in the Serious sam editions. I think adding all those textures would require more hardware acceleration, but that was what i actually wanted. This game would be king in graphics with that addition(i give it a 9.5/10 in graphics).

feel free to post your opinons , thanks

peace

Serious Sam had great textures, and Doom 3 seems sadly lacking in those textures. Doom 3 still does look spectacular though, even though its gameplay is a cross between a Half Life knock off and a standard action shooter.

negative, the darkness is exactly what adds to the doom 3 scenario, to me it blended in all pretty well. Plus thi sgame WAS not meant to be a multiplayer game anyway.

i think the darkness is helpful in creating atmosphere, and hiding the horrible textures. The models were done so well, it's like they just decided screw it and threw it out on market.

thing is im not sure they will improve the textures in quake 4 as well, they said in a pc gamer review "Don't expect landscapes to rival Far Cry but you will see some sky" , i dont know man, i hope they work on it more.

I agree. With a bright monitor, Doom 3 isn't too dark. The walls and textures (other than characters) have lots of jaggies :( I hope that some good games will be built off this engine.

I got halfway through Doom 3, bought it the day after it came out. I can't even bring myself to play anmore.

But ya, the textures were very low res for the most part.

Some of Doom3s Textures look great, like the Monitors, but others are total crap, like in the Vending machine. Most others are quite mediocre. I've just started making Textures for UT2k4 and for awhile there I was all down on my work, but after seeing some of the Textures used in Doom3 I suddenly feel like I'm able to play with the big boys! :D

as well, you know something like in the Serious sam editions.
Actually Serious Sam is one of the few games out there that supports detailed textures and as a result they look absolutely razor sharp when viewed up close.

Does this mean D3 has so-so texture detail even in Ultra-High Quality mode? Or am I confusing this with the level of texture compression?

I was disappointed with the texture quality (or lack thereof) as well. The lighting and stuff like that was impressive, as well as character detail, but come on, would it really be that hard to use world textures that look like they're slightly higher-res than the Quake2 days?

Wow, you never noticed that in single player ,you cast no shadow, but in multi-player you do cast a shadow.

I've seen some new screenshots for half life 2 and they look really well crafted and detailed all over, I think half life 2 will easily be bigger than quake 4 or any other game this year.

The quality mode controls the compression level and the size. However some textures (such as computer screens & consoles) are a small size to begin with.
