Doom 3 FPS all over the place with 6800GT

I'm having some weird FPS results from the Doom 3 time demo(precached of course). I consider 1600x1200 the baseline, and below that resolution things don't seem to be speeding up too much. Now I know I may be cpu-limited, but 1280x1024 just falls flat using a higher AA setting, while lower resolutions don't commit suicide as badly. Anybody have any ideas?

640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 1600x1200
0xAA 56.7 - 54.7 - 47.1 - 56.5 - 54.2
2xAA 55.8 - 53.1 - 43.9 - 31.8 - 50.3
4xAA 55.1 - 49.7 - 39.0 - 27.2 - 40.9

Here's a graph chart in .gif format

Shuttle AN35N-Ultra 400
Athlon XP 2500+ Barton @333
1.5GB Nanya PC3200 @333 Dual Channel
EVGA 6800GT Clocked to 400/1100 using coolbits 2.0
Forceware 65.73

I repeated the tests three times and got the same results within 2%. The 6800gt is running at 70c under load.

You're CPU/RAM limited! Enough said! The 2500+ (1.83 Ghz) just isn't fast enough to keep the card fed, and the memory bandwidth of NF2 at 333 Mhz isn't helping too much either.

Athlon 64 or P4 C would be a much better match for that fast GPU.

Being cpu lmited doesn't explain the framerate at 1280x1024 dropping like a rock with AA enabled and 1600x1200 not doing as bad.

It could be a driver issues - try the official 61.77 drivers.

You think that's weird, some benchmarks I've seen on my 6800U run faster with 4xAA enabled than they do with them off!

I just tried to run a Doom 3 time demo using the default demo001. For some reason, it starts to load, then errors out in the control because it cannot find the demo file in its directory. Odd.

timedemo demo1

and to the OP. Why worry about timedemo's? You spent all that money to play the game didn't you?
