I didn't know that id confirmed it was going to be at that contest. I will change my stance and say that it's a safe bet we'll be playing Doom 3 at home early August.

Yeah, it is expensive, I pre-ordered through GameStop and used a coupon to get 10% ($5) off a Half-Life 2 pre-order to soften the blow.

*Edit*
Just realized that I will have Doom 3 before my new video card. Oh well, at least I'll be able to make a smarter choice after seeing Doom 3 benchmarks.

You have to give them a few weeks to make the CDs, box 'em, ship everything out, and have the stores set up displays, you know. :)

I'd like to see how the X800s with Cat 4.7's improved stencil perf. compare to the 6800s in 3DM03 GT2 & 3 and X2 to get a hint of D3 perf.

Not true, they do all the prep with the exception of pressing the discs ahead of time. It can go from gold to store in as little as two days.

Too bad those are all direct x and doom is open gl. None of those games will really give you a clear idea or doom3 performance.

I don't think we've seen a year like this for gaming, especially FPS gaming. We've already seen UT2k4, now we have Doom 3, Half life 2, and Halo 2. I honestly think 1 of the last 3 is going to flop in sales, mainly because it can't measure up to the competition.

I disagree with that last statement. Considering the popularity of Doom and HL, I have a hard time believing that either one of these will flop sale wise. Quality wise remains to be seen. Halo 2 is an Xbox game and I cannot wait for it. Considering all the goodness that Halo one brought to the Xbox launch, it cannot flop sales wise. Then again what do I know?

What do you mean? Doom 3 is good, but it is NOT by any means even slightly better graphically then halo 2 or half life 2. And chances are, Halo 2 will have better gameplay then the other 2, as halo 1 had better gameplay then half life 1, and the other dooms, although they are many years apart.

I dont see why people are crazy over half life 2, as it does nothing graphically Farcry hasnt done, and the origonal Half Life was a broing overrated game.

And what is so great about Doom 3? I remember back in the day people were like, yea you'll need a GEFORCE 3!!!! to run this game well... Yea it has great lighting effects and graphics, but what kind of gameplay is it going to have? Farcry had an ok single player, with moderate action, mostly just walking and going ooo, and ahh, and a lousy multi player. I sure hope doom 3 will be better.

You're a real ray of sunshine today :p Could you link me to the screenshots of Halo2 you saw that inspired you to say it looks as good graphically as the other two? Because the ones I saw weren't near as impressive as what I've seen of the others.

Unlike FarCry, iD took it upon themselves to hire a proesffional writer to make the plot for DoomIII, the single player mode is supposed to be intensely driven BY this plot, and I think, don't put me down for sure, but DoomIII is going to be just a tad scarier than FarCry ;) Anyways, who cares! If you've played Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, you'll love seeing all the monsters in "True 3D"

I've also heard it will be a "I'm sh*ting my pants!" scary game, thanks to the immersive graphics, plot, and music. Holloween will be a great one this year me thinks :)

I want this game but I won't pay 55 dollars for it. The most I would pay for any game is 50 dollars and thats what they usually cost on the consoles. The only game I would make an exception for is the next Zelda game :) When Doom gets a price drop I am down because usually Best Buy knocks off 10 -15 dollars when a PC games comes out anyway.
