Doom 3 Crashes

I've reformatted, running fresh install of everything.

I open Doom 3, touch NO settings, and hit play.

I walk around.....and in the hallway before marine command, after I get PDA............crash to windows.

Running Athlon 64 running at 2000mhz with 1MB L2 and Radeon 9600 425/440.

Is there a patch out already? I couldn't find anything on id website.

Everything is fluid, 60fps love before the crash. No indication the hardware is struggling so bad it's gonna cause a crash.

Run your radeon at stock speeds. All the ATI cards seem to have problems with overclocking+doom3. Oh and use the correct forum.

Reducing Radeon speed to 300/200(400ddr) got me past the hallway into the kitchen area where the turkey puncher thing is.

Then, I moved on, hear people start talking, and it locks up. Doesn't crash to windows though.

Any other suggestions?

Mine crashed at the same hallway 🙁 I got dual monitors and one of my monitors went black and everything froze. Even CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't work 🙁 Found the problem yet?

Try disabling fast writes and/or transfer rate to 4X. Neither of these will affect performance noticeably, but a lot of folks have reported this simple tweak worked for them. If that doesn't help, try underclocking your video card's core and then memory (edit: didn't see your followup 😕😛).

Disable fast write.
Open case and point a room sized fan directly into your pc.

If these things resolve your issue, then the problem is heat related. If these things don't resolve your issue then you may have some sort of problem interefering with your display drivers.

This is a notebook.

Also, the latest ATI drivers specifically for doom 3 (4.9) inform me I do not have appropriate hardware installed or some such. They won't install.

Radeon X800 Pro here modded to XTPE, running 600/580 (1160 DDR) and no crashes. Danger Den waterblock, temps are 23 degrees centigrade on the GPU. CPU is a Prescott at 4.1 running at 30 degrees centigrade under full load. I haven't had any problems, with the latest catalyst before the doom driver patch or afterwards.
