How so? The game developers have thrown ALL they have at us, doom3/farcry/hl2 ect..... and the 9700s play them all just fine at max settings. The next thing is unreal engine 3 based games, which wont be out till 06 at earliest.

Huh????????
I have a 9700 pro, and DOOM 3 is choppy on medium, and Far cry is about the same. No way a 9700 can play either at max or even close to amx video settings.

Either you are using old crappy drivers, or your system is a bottleneck one way or the other. My friend has a 9700 NON pro that runs doom 3 at 1024X768 at 16XAF at ULTRA settings just fine, does the same with far cry. His cpu is an athlon 64 2800, and mem is 1GB.

Hmmm. I do only have an XP 2200+, but I'm surprised it would make that much of a difference. I know the AMD 64 does help quite a bit though. I plan to upgrade to AMD 64 after christmas.

See the rig in my sig. It plays D3 very smooth at medium 10 x 7 and I played through the whole game at high 10 x 7. Just a few slow-downs when a lot is going on, but acceptable to me. Needed the Humus tweak to help with pauses at level loads.

I played Far Cry at high, and ultra high or whatever on Environment so I could see the little fishies and birds.

I played D3 and FC with my 9800 pro OC'd to XT speeds though.

That's what I would expect. I just don't see anyone playing Doom 3 on ultra-high with a 9700.

Keep in mind that around here "max settings" equals ultra high quality at 16x12 with AA and AF cranked to the max.
