I have:

Abit VT7
P4 2.8C (800 MHz FSB)
ATI 9800 Pro on 4.7 Catalyst Final Drivers
512 MB PC3200 Mushkin Enhanced RAM

I am running on Medium, 1024x768, 2x AA, All effects.

Framerates are very good, very smooth, however it will randomly crash to desktop, or freeze, or randomly restart. What is the #^%$!(* problem here?? I updated drivers, downgraded drivers, reseated everything, cleaned out my case (moved wires around) for better airflow (if it was overheating that was the problem), pretty much everything. I am not overclocking.

I thought maybe it was bad RAM, cause other programs like internet explorer will crash giving me that WinXP dialog box with "would u like to report this problem" etc. Do you think this is a possibility? IDK really. Whatever it possibly could be, please post it. I really am annoyed by this.

Thanks.

You might want to try updating your chipset drivers, and also try the Catalyst Beta 4.9's they seem to work best w/ doom 3 (Omega 4.7's seem to work fairly well too)

Belongs in troubleshooting or Software/Apps/Games

Anyhow, your suspection of RAM is my guess. Download Memtest86 and/or Prime95 and run some 8-12hr loops.

Remember Carmack said that people would see problems on their cards that they never saw before because the game stresses features on the card that were never used before.

Precisely why i keep an image of a clean install of WinXp thats NEVER had video drivers installed b4.

Honestly, 9 times out of 10,if i think its a video driver issue, i restore a clean image of WinXp and install the latest drivers for my card then i usually have zero problems.

BTW: running Doom3 just fine with cat3.7's and/or cat 3.9's on my 256mb 9800 Pro rig and my wifes 128mb 9800 Pro rig. ( both pc's same sin sig except they have radeons)

Have you uninstalled and ran a driver cleaner yet?
Rage3D Guide

And my personal opinion = disable that VPU recover junk if ya havent yet. ;)

Thanks.

I'm haveing the same exact problem. I recently just reset all my BIOS to "Optimal". The only BIOS settings I modified were the CPU realted ones, so my computer would recognize the correct speed. I reinstalled windows XP Home. I have all my latest drivers. I think it may be just a faulty RAM issue. I'm thinking of RMAing both my sticks back to NEWEGG. Please tell me how you fix this problem, IF you do. Thank you.
