Doom 3 and EAX

OK, I've never finished Doom 3 (I got bored of the monotonous turn corner = zombie attack), but I decided that I'd like to finish the game off. I got an Xfi Gamer card a few months ago, and would like to use EAX. I understand that Doom patch 1.3 enables EAX 4.0, but I wasn't sure if my Xfi drivers supported the game as well. I'm assuming that they do, but thought I would ask here. The beta drivers are for the Audigy 2 cards and are many years old, which is why I think my Xfi drivers should suffice.

Don't download the drivers from that link. Download the latest drivers from the Creative Labs website. Those will support EAX4 and EAX5 which is designed for X-Fi. See here. Doom 3 uses OpenAL, so if you use Vista you don't need to use ALchemy.

Thanks.

I patched the game to 1.3 and the option to enable EAX 4.0 was there. I enabled it and have been really enjoying this game. It's not how I remember it being. The zombies, spiders, demons, etc. still spawn at relatively predictable times, but the game is really entertaining for some reason. I'm glad I have something to tide me over until Bioshock drops in price.

I'd wager the new EAX effects are increasing your immersion.

I personally think Doom 3 is one of the most underrated games ever.

Doom 3 was really really great, people just tried to see the game for something other than it was intended to be.

Like the idiots who whined about the flashlight for instance.

I still enjoy playing Doom3. It's agreat looking game and the enemy A.I. is just right unlike STALKER's unbeatable, unfun A.I.
