Doom 3 and AA

I'm in the 3rd or 4th level now, and this us the scariest game I have ever played. It is just freaking creepy.

I disagree with Kyle/HardOCP about the AA though. I haven't played at 16X12, but at 12X10 and below AA is definitley a good thing. You're not always in the dark, and there are railings and edges that need AA everywhere.

I have a 6800NU, and I don't OC, so I can't help you there.

Running 11X8 High Quality, Quincunx AA, 8X AF.

Have you tried running with 4x instead of 2xQ? If not, care to take the time to see how much of a performance hit? I have a system very similar to yours 🙂. But I don't get Doom3 till Tuesday.

Seemed too sluggish to me, YMMV, I don't OC anything. Good luck with it.

Thanks. With my old Ti4400, I would always use 2xQ for my AA needs, and I loved it. Although some purists would say it blurred the visuals ever so slightly (and they were right), it wasn't that noticable to me to turn it off. It looked better on.

hwy Rollo, u got the game now, plz clerify me that how will the game look & run on my 2 systems

Rig 1

P4 3.06, HT, 512DDR333, Intel 865GBF & Gigabyte FX5900XT overclocked to 400/650

Rig 2

P4 2.4B, 512 MB DDR333, Gigabyte FX5700 nU

Both rigs running at default clock speeds no overclock. I play all games & will play this one at 1024X768 with 2XQ AA & 2X Anis will this be playable on both my rigs, I guess so.

Also tell me does Doom3 requires DirectX 9c installed as I m still using DX9b with NVIDIA 61.76 WHQL, if it does does it comes bundled

Well i dont have it an i can point out a couple of things that are bottlenecks.

1 OC that RAM so it syncs with your CPU FSB.

2 No doesn't require 9.0C nothing does yet except far cry patch but thats been recalled.


As for performance i dont know just wait for Rollo or someone who has the game to answer that.

Both the CPU works at 533 FSB & both the RAM works at ddr333 speed so it is already in sync, I can't over clock they are intel desktop boards

The 1st rig is mine while the 2nd is of a friend, I can play doom3 nice, I was asking for him, the 2nd rig

i saw the game run on a 3.2 GHz with 2gb ram and a 9800pro today. the system had no problem running it at 1024 high quality, 4xAA and 16x quality AF. it looked pretty sweet. I've been running on a 9700pro (2.3Ghz/512mb ram) with no AA/AF at medium quality. I didn't see many image quality differences in the two setups during gameplay. I think the processor speed and system ram help out a LOT.
Rollo, I think I'm about where you are in the game. as you say there are a ton of rails and stuff. there is enough details to distract me from the jaggies though 🙂
