A Vietnamese friend of mine says that Dooh is the F word in vietnamese... is he pulling my leg? Can anyone verify or deny this claim? Does this make Homer a Vietnam vet who brought back a swear word?

I'm not Vietnamese but I hear some of my friends saying it and I think it does mean that, but the accent is kinda different.

When I was in middle school they said it was Du-Ma-Ma, what does the extra Ma mean?

There's several thousands of languages in the world. The chances are good that any word or gibberish phrase for that matter (like "doh") will be a profanity in some language.

<< Homer Doh! stands actually for DON'T! meaning somthing like NO! >>

I have always seen it with a slap to the forehead like, I can't believe it happened. In the limited vocabulary of the swearers the F word would fit right in.

Now where'd you get that? If it stands for DON'T, then how did it come to mean NO?

Anyways, i do'nt think it means either... to me it means DAMN.

I heard this from the voice of Homer himself. Back in the days, when TV was black and white, you could never say bad stuff. I forget what show it was taken from, but some guy on TV would say "D....ohhh", as if he was getting ready to say Damn, but restricted himself. There originally was supposed to be a small pause like that, but over time it just got to be the simple, 3 letter "DOH" or "D'OH" (see how it's broken up? The D stands for Damn :D)

Ok, asked a friend of mine. Du is equiv to "f*". Ma is equiv to "mother". The second Ma you have should be something closer to Mai which he says is equiv to "your". Don't know what the whole pharase would mean though.

Mapidus;
That pretty much verifies what I heard, I wonder if the Simpson writers realize that they have a foul mouthed Vietnam Vet on their hands? I think that whole D' oh argument is just a cover up. Man, every where you look a conspiriacy!
