Donut Magnet : proper use/installation?

Building a PC and I have the 'donut magnet' which, I believe
should have the power and reset switch wires running through it.

What wires exactly are supposed to loop through the magnet?
i have wires for power, reset, speaker, 3 HDs LEDs, power LED, \
reset LED,...do they all get looped through the magnet?

Does it matter where on the wires the magnet is? any info?


 
Its not a magnet. It is an interference thingy, like the thing connected to your monitor plug. It helps elimitate EMI/RFI.
 
Well, the interference could possibly trace back into your system. Your could get memory erros and crap like that. We use em in the server room where there is a lot of magnetic interference and such. Or if you live near high tension power lines. For the average home user it may not be necessary. But it doesnt hurt. just run the wires straight thru.
 
Run them through and wrap around the donut once, so it doesn't just slide to the ends of the wires and hit the motherboard. 🙂

I've always wanted to get a big one to run all the cables through coming from the back of the computer too.

I wonder if one would help if we also ran our IDE and SCSI cables through them as well.
