Don't you just hate it when somethings not working like it's supposed to?

Is the title better now, you big babies?

You work on it for hours racking your brain to figure out what the hell is wrong, then realize it's the stupidest little thing you forgot to look at?

Example:

- Son gets new video card
- Installs it
- Also plugs in USB wireless mouse receptor
- Turn computer on and gets stuck on Bios screen (not bios)
Can't get into Bios, unplug, replug, dust off everything, remove graphics card, reinstall, try using other graphics connections, remove ram, reset ram, check cpu to see if everythings okay with it, remove/replace CMOS battery, try onboard video, unplug keyboard, take motherboard out of case (thinking possible short is happening) nothing works, NOTHING!
- Ready to process RMA to Newegg for new video card
- then out of the grace of god (or whoever), I get past Bios screen and see a message about USB recognition
- Hand to forehead
- Unplug USB wireless mouse receptor
- BAM! Windows loads

Spent 4 hours trying to figure this stupid little thing out.

on the other hand, it's a consolation that you didn't have to RMA anything.

Anyway USB devices would be the first thing I remove but I guess you just forgot about it.

Yeah I always fall for that or something like it. The worst part is that by the time I finally figure it out it always turns out to be something I thought of and dismissed half a dozen times in favor of trying other increasing complicated solutions.

yup happened to me at work a few days ago. i was running a grails dbm-update command in my powershell and was getting an error about a boolean type not being recognized. i had like 2 other people look at the problem with me and tried a whole bunch of things. we literally spent about 90 - 120 minutes on this. then someone mentioned something about that for some reason triggered something in my mind, where i remembered having syntax issues running this specific command in powershell.

i opened up normal windows command prompt, ran the grails dbm-update command, and it succeeded without a hitch.

I know. I looked for my kitten under the recliner... wasn't there. Went and tore apart a closet... wasn't there... checked recliner again. Nope. Tore apart another closet... wasn't there. Check up inside recliner... again... Bam! Meow... There he was! All I had to do was look just a little harder and my wife wouldn't have had to put all that stuff back in the closets.

Yes, especially when it's something stupid I had to deal with before and just forgot about the solution.

I work in field service. This happens to me all the time. Doesn't happen the same way twice, though. :)

I did that when I was putting in my HDMI switch a few weeks ago. I had to completely unplug everything in the entertainment center to rewire the HDMI cables through the switch, then spent about 45 minutes trying to figure out why nothing was passing through the receiver to the TV. Unplugged everything and replugged it in multiple times, getting increasingly louder in my profanities, but still finding no success. Figured the switch was broken, so I tried plugging individual items back into the receiver directly; still nothing. That's when it occurred to me that the "HDMI Out" port in the receiver was empty, and I had plugged that cable into one of the inputs on the switch by mistake. Swapped it around and everything worked perfectly.

So I only wasted an hour or so being an idiot.

Don't you hate it when people put an intentionally vague title on a thread to try and get more people to look at it.

Well Sir you won, but I have your card marked now.....

Up for a better title for the whiners here.

For future reference, hover you mouse over the title and it will give some of the opening post. Then you can decide whether or not to cry about the title.

This is a daily thing for me. The software I use for work is unstable. Very buggy and frequently glitches out. Had to do the 5am to 1pm shift last Sunday as the weekend girl had a family emergency. Damn thing didn't work for SIX HOURS. Was basically in for no reason. Always goes down when nobody's here to fix it.
