but the only buy it because they can, but they have no options in them? So basically, they are getting, for example, and S350 CDI (the lowest S class atm [I think]), and they have no options on them. What is the point? If you want a car, at least get a decent car that you can afford, and get everything in it.

What is your opinion about it?

I don't care - it's not my money, it doesn't matter to me. If they're content with it, that's all that matters.

I always go low on options. Options just kill you on money and if 95% of the car is the same you come out the big winner.

Exactly. I'm in it for the drive. Screw things like aluminum dash and cargo nets.

Besides, I'd bet options depreciate to close to nothing almost immediately

the point is, if someone gets, for example, an RR, or a Bentley, or a Maybach, or a 760 Li, or a S600, or an Audi A8 (dno if i missed any), why cheap out? Go for the model you want, but at least get everything in it.

might be a personal thing for me, but i dno.

Its all a matter of what you want. Some people like options, some people don't. I didn't really care a whole lot about options when I bought my car. OH NO, I can't get sat nav! I could care less. The options that came on my car were factory installed accessories. They didn't affect the price of the car so I was fine with that.

i say its smarter o get the car without many options and add on as you go. You will learn a bout your car and most times you will be more satisfied.

When you're spending $300k on a car you're going without certain options because you don't want them; not cost.

Options can make a high-end civic cost the price of a low-end accord. Which would I rather have? No brainer.

The point is that for the same price, you can get a maxed out lesser car or a no-options better car.

The luxury and driving dynamics of the better car will always shine through, regardless of what additional options you have added. Just let everyone else pay for the R&D that went into that better car ;)

S350 CDi? Thats a diesel, so you have no idea what you're talking about. There is an intended difference between your "big dawg" S600 V12 and a turbodiesel short wheelbase S Class.

*shrug* I put ABS, Side Airbags, a sunroof and a 6-CD changer into my Mazda3, all of which I feel were worth every penny. Everyone's got their own opinions.

I probably could have done without the leather though. :p

The option package on our Range Rover cost as much as a new Korean import.

I voted for "all options, and then the most you can afford", but really feel like it's a matter of choosing a car you want, can afford, and one that has the options you want. As rbloedow would say, it's all about the package.. ;)

i wouldn't get ALL the options...but I would get the ones that interest me. I would never get a bare-bones car.
