..sign onto AIM/MSN just to put up an away message? I have friend who signs on and throws up the 'Away.' message right away. Some people seem to always have the away message up. What's up with that!?

I hate people who write their life on msn.
"OMG THAT WAS SO FUN LAS NIGHT EEH JOHN!?!?11"

You procced to ask them about it and they , oh nothing. Bunch of attention whores.

I wish that was the most of my worries.

That's exactly what I thought when I read this. It puts things into perspective a little!

If you log out of AIM/MSN when you use Trillian and you have your away message up, it automatically goes back up when you log back in. Maybe they're using Trillian instead of the standard AIM and MSN clients.

They use it as an outgoing service rather than an incoming one.

I understand when people are announcin something through their profile/away message. But when all the message says is 'Away' for like 10 hours.. that bugs me. And its ok if it happens on occasion. Sometimes you sign on and you gotta be away right away. But one of my friends does that EVERY time.

I guess it's an age thing. When I was in college I had a list of messages so that people knew where I was if they wanted to join me at the cafe or know what time I would be back if they wanted to go out. Once I joined the working world I didn't even bother importing any information when I reinstalled Windows. If you could find me available online for more than 4 hours a week you picked a good week to try to talk to me. I usually don't bother signing off when I leave my computer running to handle other tasks, but once the screen saver kicks on I'm marked as away.

its like an answer machine. They leave it up and if they're gone the whole day and someone needs to tell them something they can. It makes sense to me.

I must admit I do that. I hate the idea someone can contact me, and that I will be obligated to converse, when I am busy. Maybe I should use the "busy" thing instead. 🙂

It annoys the hell out of me, but I do it all the time. Yes, I'm a hypocrite, but I'd rather have people think I'm away and just talk to the people I want to instead of being bombarded by messages. I use MirandaIM so I can talk with the message up.

I don't hate people who do it, but I DO hate people that have AIM running but will never talk to people. I DO hate it when all people do is put song lyrics as an away message, and I DON'T really care enough about any of it to warrant posting about it, or even thinking about it outside of the second or two after I check who is on AIM.

I have far more disdain (refer to the hating thread elsewhere) for people who complain and whine about every little inconvenience in their lives...
