Don't you hate it when...

...people make accounting errors and you have an extra several thousand in your checking account? On one hand, the other day I made a $4000 credit card payment that the cc company says posted on the 14th. My bank statement shows no such thing. Secondly, it appears that I'd gotten paid twice yesterday.

Not that I mind the extra cash, but it's damned annoying knowing that not only is it going to go away, but that I will have to exercise some effort to make it go away.

This blog entry has been brought to you by both Astaroth, and the number 33. Have a really nice day.

My bank is nuts as well. While they've never "given me an extra $1,000" or anything, their online account management sucks.

I'll make CC payments and they don't show up for 10 days. I use a POS terminal at the mall and it shows up immediately, but I go next door and purchase some gas for the truck and it takes 5 days to show up.

I avoid probs by annotating in my checkbook IMMEDIATELY when I walk thru door upon arrival at home. I put all the receipts in my checkbook and don't throw them away until the debits show up at my bank.

I'd switch to another bank (have wanted to for years now) but I have direct deposit AND I pay a LOT of bills with auto debit. PITA to set up , but once it's done it's sweet; no more checks to write. If I change banks, I'd have to set all that up again and you just KNOW my payments would be f'ed up for a month at least. :|

This glimpse into the brightly lit, noisy room I call my mind has been brought to you by MichaelD and the other four people that live inside my head.

the other day I cashed a check and withdrew $50, they gave me my money, plus an extra $50! I didn't say anything until I got a call from the bank saying that they will be deducting that out of my account. : (

I remember once when I wac buying a money order for $150. I gave the guy 7 $20s and one $10, but I guess he missed the $10 and gave me back my receipt... and a $10 bill for change. I was like 😕 but then i took the bill and didn't say a word. yay free money!

Someone in Russia used my Visa debit card number to buy some $880 Nokia cellphone from CanIHave.com. The $880 appeared as a hold on my account. I told the bank about it, they credited my account with the money. I also contacted CanIHave.com about it - they credited my account too. They knew it was fraudulent because the security code from the back of the card didn't match - which brought up the question of why my bank account had a hold on it in the first place if the security code was wrong.

But in any case, for a time, I had $880 extra in my account. Not many people can have their credit card number stolen and come out almost $900 ahead.
I did actually make about $3 off of the mess. CanIHave.com is a UK-based company, and the exchange rate fluctuated slightly in the few days the entire fiasco took. So between the charge and the credit, the exchange rated benefited me ever so slightly. 🙂

Reminds me of that time my roomate monitored the Canadian exchange rate for an entire semester to time up the best possible time to go up to Montreal and get drunk...

😀

remember in that monopoly game, there was a chance (or was it community chest) card that read "Bank error in your favor, collect $200"? it woulda been funny if there was a card also in the deck that said "Bank catches previous error, return $200".
