Don't you hate it when you have to wait 130 minutes for a single delivery of pizza?

Last night, after getting off work at 6:30, 2.5 hours LATE, Bockchow said he had Insomnia so I dropped by his place to watch it with him before going home. I'd never seen it before and it got seriously kickass reviews on rotten. I hadn't eaten all day and felt like blowing off my attempt at eating healthy that I've been on for a few months now, so we ordered pizza for delivery.

We ordered a large cheese pizza and two orders of buffalo wings. They had a special for the large pizza and one order of wings for $16 with additional wing orders for $6. One order was chipotle BBQ and the other was spicy BBQ. Good stuff. Anyway, I was told 40 to 45 minutes until our order was delivered. 90 minutes later, we called back asking wtf was going on. The manager said that the computer that took the order fvcked up and the order was never saved, money never charged to my card (thus the phone number getting lost too so they couldn't call back), so he was going to take my order again and give me a hefty discount to attempt to build customer loyalty -which was very cool. He took the order again and said that they have a special running where you can get a large one topping plus an order of wings for $16 total and with the extra order the pre-discount total would be $23. I told him that's exactly what we wanted to order. Anyway, he mentioned something about $5 so I thought he was going to give me a $5 discount, which isn't bad considering how much profit these places make on their price-jacking. He said another 40 minute wait. Grr... oh well. When the delivery guy showed up, the receipt that I had to sign for my card said the total bill was $5! Five dollars! :D :D I gave the delivery guy a $5 tip cuz I'm a softy sometimes. ;)

I would have posted this in hot deals, but the deal's location-specific and already closed

Score! That was very good on their behalf, I wonder if they did that for anyone else who called back with the same complaint? I bet that pizza and buffalo wings tasted even better after that!

Why wouldn't you deserve a discount, they screwed up and you had to wait

Not a bad deal -- I had a similar experience with a Chinese delivery place where they not only got the order wrong and wrote my CC # down wrong, but they also didn't bother to call me back to get the correct number. Basically what ended up happening was, I called up asking where my food was and they explained the story, I gave them the right credit card number and they went ahead and delivered it.

Which is when I discovered that they went ahead and made the food when I had originally placed the order (2 hours before it was delivered), so not only did I have to pay full price for it, but it was also cold-to-lukewarm.

:D That they did! :p Delivery pizza never really tastes all that great anyway, unless it's some wacky super-pizza that costs $20 alone or something. The wings tasted GREAT. Let's see... let's say the cost for the pizza was $3 and the wings $1 each order. There's 10 wings per order, so that's $0.10 per wing and $0.375 for each slice of pizza. That was the best damn $0.38 slice of pizza and $0.10 buffalo wing I've ever had! :D :D

That is an awesome deal! I would be definitely happy to wait the extra time for a discount like that!

I spent 3 years delivering pizzas and we gave away free orders all the time for screwups a lot less serious than that. That's why it's surprising they made you pay at all.

FYI the food cost of a large pizza is about $2. Side orders run in the range of $0.15-0.40.

If they'd charged me money, I would have asked for a discount because the "deal" was already done -the same way FS/FT works. ;) I called asking where the food was, as in maybe the driver got lost or got in an accident or something. If they said "sorry, our building's burning down" I would have ordered elsewhere but how was I to know that they didn't even charge my card? If I knew they didn't charge my card and the order wasn't made, I would have called somewhere else -but there's no way for me to have known that without calling to see what was up. If you order something from FS/FT and you never hear from the guy after weeks and weeks, do you just assume everything's going well or do you attempt to contact them to see what's up?

The manager did very very well.

Yup. They still made a profit, which is fine with me, but I got one hell of a deal. :)

Same reason it makes Toekramp a wiener too I guess, why don't you ask him.

I never get delivery.

1. It takes to long. Picking it up is faster.
2. Not that I'm cheap or anything, but I wouldn't don't have to tip. (BTW I'm not a cheap-ass tipper)

At the pizza shop I work at, by default, I tell customers "we're really backed up on deliveries right now... it'll be a little over an hour for a delivery, or 10 minutes if you pick it up."

I hate delivering.

Well, I would have picked up a pizza on the way, but I was riding the city bus and the only pizza place on the way is called Pizza Schmizza -and they charge WAY too much for crummy pizza. They overcharge for their food because their restaurants are fantastic places to hang out (awesome decorations and atmosphere) and people are willing to pay those prices to be in that kind of setting.

I got off the bus and walked to Bockchow's which isn't far, but walking to the closest pizza place, ordering, and walking back would result in probably 90 minutes and cold pizza by the time we sat down to eat anyway.
