Don't you hate it when sellers don't check their e-mail?!?

Arg!@ :| I've been trying to get in contact with this seller on ebay for the past 3 days. He's selling a subwoofer that I want to buy. He lives in Tallahassee, and I live in Panama City, so I want to pick it up instead of having it shipped. I dropped an e-mail asking him if I could pick it up, and a few other questions, and still no reply :| I need to know ASAP so I can decided to purchase it from him or take my money elsewhere.

People need to learn good business practice.

When's the auction end? ARe you the high bidder? If I was him, I'd be checking my email often. I might be Ebaying a bunch of stuff soon. Never sold anything on EBay before.

I have 3 days to go until the end of the auction. My other question was, is the auction for two WooX units, or just one? I am hopeing that he isn't confusing the passive radiator on the system for a subwoofer. Well, I guess that I could just bid and if it is just one, not pay (because he auction is clearly stating that he's selling two of them).

Does the seller have to pay Ebay a percentage above that $.40 listing fee? How's it work? (too lazy to click thru EBays tedious processes screens.)

I would remind you that some people have just gotten back from a three day weekend and it may take awhile for them to get back up to speed.

Now the other side: There are more and more rude, thoughtless people on the internet daily. People seem to forget (if they ever had any) their manners when dealing with others on the net.

Hmm, I totally forgot about the holiday weekend. Alright, if I get a reply today, I won't be so mad then :)

rule of thumb: if the potential seller doesn't answer after 2 emails, DO NOT BUY from them.

You do realize that some people have a life and actually go away for weekends that stretch into a holiday??? If he doesn't get back to you today, then don't buy from him. I could understand what you are saying if it was over 3 business days, but over the weekend? Come on dood.

Some of the stories I've heard from sellers regarding emails they get:
"Is this item new?" Auction clearly says item is used.
"Will you ship to <insert country>?" Auction clearly says shipping to US only.
"Will you end the auction now if I pay you $X? You'll save on ebay fees." Their offer is about half of what the item will sell for.
"If I win the auction, will you ship by first-class mail instead of Priority mail? That would save me a dollar." This is on a $60 item.
"Can you open up the back, unsolder the frazulator, and let me know if there is a 4.7 microfarad capacitor on the board underneath it?"
"Will you accept Paypal from my credit card? I know your auction says you don't, but that's the only way I can pay for it."
"If I win, can you hold the item for a month? I might win some other items from you and want to combine shipping."
"Is this the same item that <another seller> is selling? All of yours are red, but he sells the blue ones and I like those better."
"If I win, will you include a fake sales slip so I can get a full factory warranty?"
"I saw another auction for those on Yahoo auctions and it sold for $40. Will you sell me this one for the same amount?" Turns out the one on Yahoo was broken and was being sold for parts.
"If I win, can I pick it up instead of shipping it to me so I can save the shipping costs? You live about 80 miles from me and I wondered if you could meet me halfway." Sure, I'd drive 40 miles so you can save four bucks.

That list could go on forever, but the impact is many sellers are deluged with emails, most of which are from dolts. But many sellers try to respond courteously to each one, which takes time. Other sellers just nuke the stupid ones, which gets people irritated. Can't please everyone.

Yeah.

I'm just starting my yearly spring eBay sell. Haven't had any problems so far.

Hopefully this year will be the same.

The listing fee depends on your starting price, and certain other features(like buy it now, or a Reserve price) you chose.

Then, when the item sells, they take a percentage of the ending price.

eBay Fees

Let's say for example you list something with a starting price of 20$. That will cost 55 cents. Plus 5 cents if you want buy it now, and 10 cents if you want a 10-day auction..

Then let's say your item sells for 45$. They take 5.25% of the first 25$($1.31), and then 2.75% of the remaining balance up to 1,000$.

So your final value fee would be 1.31+0.55. So your fees, all together, would be around $2.56.

Now do you understand why eBay does so well for themselves? ;)

As far as fees/prices go, don't forget fees associated w/ PayPal. While some buyers still don't mind sending a money order, most want the convenience of PayPal. Potential sellers have to factor in the percentage that PayPal deducts. For example, I sold my PowerBook G4 for $1699 and PayPal charged me $47 to handle the transaction.

It seems like a steep price at times, however, having PayPal secure/guarantee the transaction makes the price bearable.
