Don't you hate it when eBay sellers charge too much for shipping?

Here's an idea: eBay should have a rule that forces sellers to have free local pickup as an option.

While I don't mind local pickup, I would meet someone close by. I don't want random ebayers coming to my house.

I can't see this happening. A lot of Power Sellers that give a lot of money to eBay's coffers would raise holy hell if eBay forced this on them. And frankly I wouldn't want to meet a total stranger at my house or at any other location to be honest. There are some eBay sellers (typically regular businesses that just have an eBay presence as well) that do offer a local pickup option and for them it works out fine.

The solution is simple require either free shipping or require the use of a shipping calculator and accutual shipping cost. Then just add the shipping into the price that you see when search and/or bidding. That way it is very easy to tell what item is the cheapest.

fyi: its very difficult to post a fixed shipping price thats all encompassing.
for example.
i shipped two identical items to ebayers recently.
one was $6 and some change(NH)
one was 14.60(DALLAS WHERE JR IS!)

i put shipping at 15.00 as a guestimate.

Fixed.

I'm sure lots of buyers don't even look at ebay because it is such a pain in the ass.

How is it any more of a pain in the ass than to check the shipping rate at an online store? Its actually easier, you can see up front wheras at a store you usually need to add the item to your cart and then calculate it.

An online store the other day wanted $30 to ship a picture frame, for example.

People can charge what they want. Dont bid if you dont like the price.

Exactly. If the shipping and handling price bothers you, adjust your bid accordingly.

And I suppose I should just through in the box, packing materials, etc on my own dime?

the simple solution is obvious... the seller no longer sets the shipping amount. shipping is included in the bid... everything left post shipping is seller profit.

this solves both prolems of overcharging for shipping... and backloading the shipping to pay lower ebay fees.

What pisses me off more is ebay and paypal's fees, which drive-up operations costs for sellers. When I was actually selling stuff I would figure breaking even with the minimum bid and including the cost of fees in the shipping.

I used to offer local pickup, but it's too much of a pain. I'd rather just drop it in the mail and be done with it than wait around for somebody to show up.

And the seller gets screwed over even more. Great idea.

If you don't like it then don't buy it. DUH. Just FYI, this is how America works.

Aparently you've never heard of a reserve price.

why do buyers get pissed off?

People that are overcharging normally get less for the actual item and people that are charging normal shipping get more.

The only entity getting screwed is eBay.
