I come from a coastal city in India, so never experienced static electricity before - though I had read of it in high-school (the crackling sound your comb makes when you comb dry hair and how the comb can turn into a temporary magnet). The first night I landed in the U.S, I got my first taste of static electricity when I tried to open my motel room door. I thought it was probably some sort of security mechanism 😱 The next day it happened everywhere at work and then my HR guy explained what caused it! Now, I use my car key or coat sleeve to ground the static before opening doors - otherwise I just slam my hand hard on the knob so I won't notice the sharper sting of shock 🙁 Somedays it can get real bad and I see a huge (relatively speaking, of course 🙂 ) streak of blue bolt! Wonder if it makes us all dumber to keep frying our brains this way 😛
