Don't you hate flame posts?

I like the Anandtech forums because, for the most part, there isn't much vicious flaming. (Please refrain from sarcastic flames now that I said that.) But on other boards I frequent (with a much more immature atmosphere), every post is about how stupid someone is. Who wastes their time with such crap? Why would you waste the time to respond to a message, just to point out how dumb they are?

And most flame posts have a similar structure. For example, one technique that is used is to quote the original poster throughout the message. That makes the original post seem really stupid, when you can pick it apart.

Another technique, which is also taught in high school debate, is to find where the other person contradicted themselves. Again, trying to discredit the original message by picking it apart. Correcting spelling errors also makes the original poster look less intelligent.

Also, they usually end in a really raunchy insult. It really shows their immaturity when they can't finish the thread without making a comment about the other person's mom, or being gay.

Just some observations I've made today.
