I have my test run on ECS K7S6A (Sis745 chipset) for couple days now.

To make it simple, here is my little comparison w/ Shuttle AK31a. (KT266a)

Duron Morgan 1 Ghz w/ Crucial/ Micron PC2100 512 MB DDR

Kt266a.....capable running 166X7 (even w/ overclocking PCI bus speed) w/ 1.85V
Sis745.....ABSOLUTELY Unable to run 166FSB, even I back down to 5X clock w/ 1.85V.

Kt266a... FSB speed is exactly what you enter.
Sis745.....(if I choose 133/133/33, the FSB is actually running at 132Mhz)
then, there is another option as 137/137/34, and FSB is actually running at 133.32Mhz)

Kt266a.....1.85V in the BIOS, you actually got around 1.86V.
Sis745.......1.85V in the BIOS, you only got 1.82V!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both Memory and CPU speed under Sandra2002 clearly show that Sis745 are slower than KT266a.
According to Sandra2002, Sis745 outperform by ALI also!!!!!!

I was really really hoping Sis745 can do some damage to KT266A, turn out, it is merely Sis 735 w/ OC-ability!

I've been saying the same thing. The SiS745 is nothing but a placeholder, just like KT333. The only thing it is good for is DDR333 support which ain't that great IMHO. The ones to watch are KT333A and SiS746

Okay, maybe so....but it doesn't change the fact that Sis745 does NOT has significant improvement over 735.

Well, not that I ignored your posts about Sis745. :( Just when I thought my CPU can run very stable at 166FSB w/ KT266a, I'd like it to run on 1/5 divider so I don't have to OC my IDE/PCI devices.

I am totally disappointed.

TimeKeeper,

Aside from that how was the stability of the ECS K7S6A ?

I dont really care if it's a bit slower than a KT266a I just want to be able to use the multipliers & up the volts to about 1.80 on my T-bird.

Like NFS4 said the SIS746 would be better to wait for with ata133 & usb 2 but I dont think i can wait that long. :(

When can we expect to see motherboards that have full 166fsb support, 1/3 AGP, and 1/5 PCI?

NFS4, does 746 and KT333A support that?

Budman;

I have been running Shuttle AK31A for 2 months w/ WinXP Coporate edition. (not a single crash, and consider I never shut down my pc)

I have only running SiS745 for 3 days, also w/ WinXP Coporate edition. So far so good, actually.

I don't think the 745 was ever hyped as some super-mega-god-chipset-revision-#2. It's just a hold over like NFS4 said with firewire and DDR333 support thrown in. The interesting SIS chipsets should be coming later in the year if the sis roadmaps are accurate.

This doesn't suprise me at all. The big thing for me for 745 is the fact that a whole bunch of manufacturer's (according to OCWorkbench) will be making boards using it (Icluding Abit, Asus, and more). I'd consider it if a good mobo is made but for now, I'll stick with 266A/nForce.

Agreed:D

"don't waste your money"....

the thing is $70....how could u possibly be wasting any money on it?

at least the stability is there...and the performance is slightly better than the 735...still worth it in my eyes.
