A Utah legislative committee on Wednesday asked a lawmaker to refine a bill that seeks to — eventually — shut off water to the National Security Agency’s data center in Bluffdale.

Committee members expressed some concerns with the bill but no outright opposition. They asked the bill’s sponsor, Rep. Marc Roberts, R-Santaquin, to better define who would be impacted by the bill.

The members also asked questions on whether Utah taxpayers are supporting the NSA.

"I just don’t want to subsidize what they’re doing on the back of our citizens," said Rep. Roger Barrus, R-Centerville.

Curious how the constitutionality would work out. But I am impressed with this creativity of a state to defy the federal government. Apparently the data center when fully operational over a million gallons of water will flow through the facility every single day to cool the computers. No water, no NSA :p

Umm, thats a huge weak spot. They need constant flow of outside water?
What if it were sabotaged by terrorists? They should really be using a closed cooling system.

Stupid.

Whatever happens I guarantee nobody is cutting off the NSA's data center's cooling water. Just won't happen.

If it were sabotaged by terrorists then they wouldn't be able to spy on us as easy.

Why bother? Just dig up all the dirt on them and blackmail.

No worries, Obama is giving the EPA expanded authority over water regulation. This won't matter next year. Yeah, let's federalize everything.

Just accuse him of rape. No evidence required. Then pull a Michael Hastings on the woman paid to make the claim so she can't go back on it later.

It's certainly a sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. Our own government is a much bigger threat than Russia or China.

That facility adds a ton of jobs. Pretty decent pay, I was offered $29 an hour and turned it down as an electrician. There are also some pretty large reserves of water on site.

Spying and disrespecting privacy is okay if you create jobs along the way?

The government should pay me $30/h plus benefits to watch porn all day. It'll be good for the economy because it forcefully takes money away from savers via taxes and spends it in the economy. This will increase the overall velocity of money, and the economy could grow. This would also increase GDP.

We should do this for everyone who doesn't have a job. Imagine how strong the economy would be if 10% of the US population was making 60k per year while adding zero value to the economy. We would finally be able to reach that 2% inflation target because the money velocity and aggregate demand would increase without a corresponding increase in the supply of goods. More money chasing after the same number of goods causes inflation, which is good. Our goal should be to make every city as expensive as New York City. I like paying more for food and housing in addition to paying higher taxes to fund all of these stimulus jobs. Can you imagine how terrible the economy would be if the cost of housing went down instead of up? I might not have all white neighbors. That colored boy who manages the mcdonalds across the street might be able to buy the condo next to me! Homes would be purchased by mere peasants and colored people as places to live instead of being purchased by hedge funds as speculative investments.

The problem with our economy is that it's too productive. Too many people are adding too much value, and this causes deflationary pressure. We need to reverse this trend. We need to fire teachers and hire more administrators. We need insurance to be a bigger part of healthcare. We need to shrink the productive sectors of our economy and focus on the nonproductive sectors of the economy. Look how prosperous the area around Washington DC is. It's because they don't produce anything. They push papers back and forth, vote on things they didn't read, and cry on TV. We need to bring that kind of prosperity to the nation. Maybe even the world. We could end hunger tomorrow if we paid people to cry on TV and not farm things. Producing less food would make it more expensive so fewer people can afford it, and this would reduce the number of people dying from starvation.

I am happy they are turned off.

Do a google maps of the surrounding towns and UTAH is now littered full of
McMansions and it looks so ugly for a desert for homes to be there.

I am sure their water supply cut off was so families could still take a shower.

Assuming they are using cooling towers and the stated 1,000,000 gallons of water per day, we get:

1,000,000 gal/day x 3.78 kg/gal x 2000 kJ/kg x 1 day / 24 hr x 1 hr / 60 min x 1 min / 60 s = 87,500 kW of heat rejected.

Wonder how much stuff that is.
