Florida is on the cusp of passing a new regulation that would make it illegal for anyone to store their personal things on public property. Specifically, it would empower police to confiscate any personal possessions stored on public property, provided they have given the homeless person 24-hours notice.

Oh, man,.. the police are taking things from people.

So, I take it that all the supporters of the Bundy land bandits will now rally behind the homeless of Florida??

As long as nobody stores cows on public land....

Ok, fine, we'll use the same standard. If after 20 years a homeless person is still storing their stuff on public property, then law enforcement can do something about it.

Somehow I don't think the inner city equates to the open range.

For the homeless we need shelters, and to give them an understanding that they are welcomed to stay. If they choose not to take shelter and instead wish to loiter around and homestead other people's property, then I have issue with them.

Also note that it wouldn't be the BLM dealing with them, but most likely their local government / sheriff. I hold the same position that if the State of Nevada owned the land and wished to keep Bundy off, then that is their right as a State.

There is no contradiction found, for two very different circumstances.

Apparently millions of cats and dogs are put down each year, they should be prepared for consumption by the homeless.

Oooh,.. those cats and dogs are on public property,... ergo, the government's responsibility.

And, if the homeless eat said cats and dogs, the homeless can then be imprisoned or executed for killing a living being,.. and one in particular that is owned by the government!!

I like the way you think!!

Conveniently overlooked by the article

WHEREAS, the City recognizes that individuals may not have a place to store their belongings and when they do not have a permanent place to do the same, and the City is willing and able to assist, on a limited basis, in providing storage facilities for these individuals

It's disingenuous to claim that "Florida" is passing anything. It's the city of Fort Lauderdale.

To claim some analogy between keeping something on city property and undeveloped, unoccupied wide open range land is absurd.

(There are actually a number of places out West where people freely set up to live, rent free, in tents and RVs.)

I lived in SoFL for as number of years. When Winter comes a horde of people descends from colder climes to occupy and live in city parks. I understand why the people come to avoid the cold, but I also understand why a city wouldn't want this.

I think we're overlooking the obvious solution; put the homeless on the BLM land in Nevada and let THEM graze it for the next couple decades. It'll give them plenty of room to do all their usual outdoorsy stuff and the rest of us won't have to be exposed to them and acknowledge that our current system is kind of fucked up in its treatment of the poorest members of society. Win-win!

Do you think the OP is smart enough to understand the difference between a municipal code and a state law? Me neither.
