Eh? I don't think you understand what a trip is. Going to the local movie theater is not a trip. Going to your local amusement part is not a trip. Traveling from Virginia to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon, by plane or car, is a trip. Visiting a foreign country is a trip. You need to plan a trip. You don't need to plan much of anything to go to the local theater, except to wear pants and bring money for the ticket.
When visiting a foreign country, do you bring your own bottled water or do you buy whatever water is being sold locally?

Packing food and water isn't part of planning a trip, unless your doing an extended hiking or outdoorsy trip.

When you want to visit a foreign country, do you just drive to the airport and buy a plane ticket? Course not, you book hotels or accommodations, research plane tickets and times, investigate local attractions, etc.

I don't consider researching/buying plane tickets to be planning. It's about as useful considering "the art of stopping to buy gas" before going to the airport to be planning.

Local attractions? The family member or friend would be the one to tell me what their own local attractions are.
Just like if a family member or friend were to come here, I would tell them what our own local attractions are.

It is being reported now that the Australian government is the cause of this whole maps issue in Australia.

I love GPS toys, GIS, and mapping, but I still never trust any of them for route planning. Think I developed this mindset years ago when routing tech still sucked. Good to know I haven't been missing much.

You are missing out, just not with Apple maps.

So you only go to places where family and friends already are?

Been to Canada, England, Germany, France, Italy, Australia, Belize, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Cameroon, and Dubai.
Every one of those countries I visited above, I either had a family member, friend, or acquaintance to rely upon or ask questions.
I guess the answer to your question is a yes?

Places like Thailand, Phillipines, South Korea, and Costa Rica are next on my list but I've slowed down on traveling a bit. I didn't go anywhere this year.

I'm glad it works for you, but most people don't have that luxury, hence the planning.

You might be waiting a while for that. Official word for Google right now is that they aren't making an iOS Maps app.

And here's to waiting in anticipation!

Google Maps on iOS = $$$ for Google. It would be stupid to give it up.
