Update - 11:00pm EST: I reached NVIDIA's PR for an official statement and they replied within the hour. Read their response and feedback from many gamers here.

Original post - 5:20pm EST: I want to warn all of our visitors who are participating in the StarCraft II Beta to refrain from installing the latest NVIDIA WHQL 196.75 WHQL-certified drivers. If you already installed it, uninstall it and downgrade to the previous version. Yeah, it's that serious. Many players are reporting their PCs or graphic card have died. It also affects all Blizzard games, so heed the call and safe your hardware's life.

According to Blizzard's Tech Support the latest NVIDIA drivers are causing fan control to not work correctly and causes massive overheat. StarCraft II Beta might kill your PC or card literally. A fix is already in the works. Stay tuned for further updates.

There are posts confirming dead graphics cards all over reddit.

That could add some interesting baggage to the 'Nvidia makes better drivers' meme.

Has this ever happened before with video drivers?

GOOD THING I'VE GOT AN ATI CARD WOOT WOOT

on a serious note, this sounds like FUD. And I usually jump at every opportunity to slam Nvidia and their dirty handed scheming attempts.

My Nvidia card suddenly accelerated and I crashed into a wall at 120 mph!

Lets see if there are any senate hearings!

I installed them the day they were released and I experienced no issues with my fan speed nor do I experience any overheat problems. I guess I'm lucky.

Huh? Nvidia has had driver problems for several years, now. Problems that ATI did not have, these recent years. This newest bug just further proves the point.

Shame how fast the US is degenerating into a third world stinkhole where
incompetence has become the norm......

Woahh, did not see something like this slipping by quality control. This reminds me of how Sun broke Java in OpenSolaris a little while back. Well, the GUI at least.

Don't get me started on how good I think ATI drivers are(they are excellent IMHO),btw it had to happen sooner or later one of them had to slip up,I'm sure Nvidia will get it sorted, just goes to show NO COMPANY is perfect regardless of what the fanbois say.

I'll say video drivers nowadays are quite complex and when you look how sophiscated hardware is nowadays plus all the hardware/software it has to work with, its no easy task.

LoL recalled Drivers...

Seriously ATI does have fan issues also in some of the new beta CAT releases. How can these companies neglect something so basic.

Wasn't there a benchmark that could kill amd cards? or was that both companies. Either way this is worse.
