Don't understand why our company rehired this person.

She quit with little to no prior notice for another competiting company. Apparently she got "recruited" to this company by a manager that got fired from our company. After all this our company still took her back. WTH? If I was a manager and someone quit on me like that I'll tell them to f-off if they wanted to come back in the future.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer

seriously though, she likely has some really good dirt on one of the higher ups.

She also may have valuable information on the competitor

Trust me you don't want to see it. If people could be fired for their looks she would definitely be one.

perhaps there is a simpler reason... like she has special talents which favor upper management and executives.

Easier to hire someone who has done the job before than to hire someone new and have to train them. I think my company has a policy that if you quit, you can't come back.
