China owns us.

Nope.

In 2007 there was approximately $2.1 trillion of direct foreign investment in the USA. The UK leads the way with around 20% of that total followed by Japan, Canada, the Nederlands and Germany with about 5% +/- each.

Best I can tell China makes no direct foreign investment in the US.

In 2005 the book value of the direct foreign investment in the US was around $1.1 trillion, roughly 5% of US 'net worth'. This represents roughly the same percentage as the direct foreign investment in the US from 1990.

Sounds like a bunch of cash, huh?

In 2007 US companies invested $2.8 trillion overseas with more than 50% of that in the EU. Investment in China was $28 billion (compared with $472 billion in Central and South America).

The real pisser? It appears that U.S. business enterprises invest overseas at a rate 3 times greater than they do in the United States.

I wonder what our 'corporatist' members think of that?

Linkage (lotsa good stuff)
