Otoh what is the absolute cheapest thing at lens crafters, $135? Seriously $50 for no Rx sunglasses...

Look for a chain called Foreyes they have the rock bottom prices (for B&M, some online joints are nasty cheap). Here is a link foreyes.com

Might be able to get a box of contacts. I always go to WAL MART, Good service and good prices in the optical department.

The wife and I have been regulars at For Eyes for some time now. They will price match local and mail-order places. This is especially good when buying contacts - you PM with 1-800-CONTACTS Link.

I use Acuvue contacts, and did some price searching about a year ago. Have been buying them from X-contacts.com ever since. The order forms look a little ghetto, but I've ordered from them 4 times and each time received my contacts via Priority mail in less than 4 days. There's a $5 off for referred customers (feel free to use my email addr, mail.echung@usa.net) if you make a note about it in the comments section.

There's also a Contact lens rebate at freecontactlensrebates.com for anyone who has purchased Bausch & Lomb, Johnson& J, or CIBA contacts. Something about an impending lawsuit.

I asked Lenscrafters what it would cost to put glass lenses in my clip-on sunglasses and the guy went to ask in the back, came out and said $175.00 and 3 weeks! HA

I purchased the 5 year contract at American Eyeglasses and Contacts. They will check your eyes as often as you like, and their price on contacts is $20 per box. I was paying my eye doctor $75 a year to be in his club, which gave me contacts at $25 per box and only a 50% discount on other eye services. I have used American for about a year now and really like them. Yes, they are busy and you sometimes must wait a week for an appointment, but it is free and the contacts are very reasonably priced.
