Just reformatted hard drive and it says I have 120 gigs but i coulda sworn i bought a 300 gig hard drive

now i know after format you don't get all that you paid for but thats a little short

I am running XP could it be that XP doesn't recognize anything larger?

How do i make sure i'm getting all that I can?

Did you remember to delete the old partition first? Even if you weren't using XP2 windows would have seen up to 137GB not 120GB. So somethings wrong. I also assume you installed all the drivers too.

Theres some other issue, I was running XP pro sp1 on a 250Gig maxtor and had no problems using it all.

look in the adminitrator tools computermanagement and storage, if you look at that drive it should show the drives configuration and if it see's any extra available space, if it doesnt the drive may have lost a platter.
