Went to work two thursdays ago and someone found a litter of kittens running around in the street.

So I ended up taking these guys.

on the same day my wife's order came after 2 months on backorder.

Jokes are still coming on it since she is Japanese. One person heard the jokes and thought they were serious....

For the record the Japanese as a whole do not eat cat nor dog. Some other asian cultures do though.

She has wanted kitties for a while, my parents have them and she loved to visit.

Not to turn this thread into a 'is a cat/dog friend or food debate?'. Often times the food animals are 'dumber' and more wild than our 'pets'. Either way it's been going on since man discovered these animals...when you are starving you eat what you can.

However, it should be noted Westerners also have eaten cats/dogs as well as South American cultures.

These debates lose scope as usually one side assumes *all* of a culture must do so if *some* do, and the other side of the debate assumes just because *they* and their *family* doesn't no one else of the culture *must*. The only outcome is a flamefest.

Some calicos and tortiseshells are like this, not all, not even most....I had a calico that was my calmest and floppy cat. In veternary work I noticed only decent calicos....no different than any other cats in personality. Now the treatment room at a Vet's office is a non-typical atmosphere and many animals behave very differently than they would say at the dog park or on a window sill.

Here is some info though:

One color quirk to be aware of: Many veterinarians and owners of calicos and torties (a type of calico) report that calico cats are more likely to be quirky, high strung, and difficult to handle outside their home environment, especially the torties. They may be fine with their owners at home, but they can be suspicious of strangers, and can become insecure and often aggressive outside the home. This makes them quite difficult to handle for even routine veterinary care.

Not all calicos and torties are like this; many are quite calm and easy-going. But there are unusually high numbers of nervous-aggressive calicos. An interesting note about calicos ? the calico gene is on the X chromosome, and it requires two X?s to be expressed. So only female cats are calicos. It?s a beautiful color combination, but seems to have some personality quirks tied with it.
