Well... I wonder why? I've never liked clowns... thought they were gonna....eat me.

Actually, there have been too many scary movies about clowns and Ronald McDonald.. he's just spooky, so I can see why kids don't particularly like them.

Anyone here ever actually feel comfortable around a clown?

They?re ?universally disliked by children,? British researchers discover

updated 3:32 p.m. ET, Wed., Jan. 16, 2008

LONDON - Bad news for Coco and Blinko ? children don't like clowns, and even older kids are scared of them.

That's the finding of a poll of youngsters by researchers from the University of Sheffield who were examining how to improve the decor of hospital children's wards.

The study, reported in the Nursing Standard magazine, found all the 250 patients aged between 4 and 16 they quizzed disliked the use of clowns, with even the older ones finding them scary.

"As adults we make assumptions about what works for children," said Penny Curtis, a senior lecturer in research at the university.

"We found that clowns are universally disliked by children. Some found them quite frightening and unknowable."

I was indifferent about clowns until I was driving down the freeway one day and looked over and there was a clown driving the car next to me. It sounds stupid but it really freaked me out. I was 21 or 22 at the time.

For smaller kids, the real issue is the face paint. For some reason it really freaks them out.

I used to do a little work as a clown, and I've found the trick is to come out with no face paint and no wig. After that, you can paint your face in front of them, and all the kids are fine with it.

I heard this on the Howard Stern show yesterday. Clowns are always kind of creepy if you ask me.

I have always been afraid of clowns, I still am. But my reason was because I had a very unenjoyable experience with a clown being very touchy with me while I was younger. But yeah, I'd still prolly be scared of them without that happening.

They've never scared me.

I even watch IT when I was younger and wasn't bothered by it.

My wife on the other hand has a unnatural fear of them.

She'll run away from them :p

My aunt collects clown dolls since she used to dress up like a clown for a children's hospital she was a nurse at, so her guest room is filled with all sorts of clown figures, dolls, etc of all sizes.

The first time my wife was over there with me (when we were dating) my aunt shows my wife the guest room (I had no idea at the time her fears of clowns) and my wife was right on the brink of having a panic attack and pretty much ran out of there after snapping out of it.
