Don't listen to those that tell you we are headed for a depression.
we will only hit a depression if we allow our economy too. the economy is not about wall street. it's not about the fortune 500. it's about working men and women, don't let any of these fancy economist fool you into thinking otherwise. over 2/3's of the jobs in the US are from small to medium size businesses. We the consumers are the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FORCE in the economy. It's our perception which actually changes the direction of the economy.
for 8 yrs under clinton we had a great and prospering economy, is it because of the dot coms. don't fool yourself, they were an insignificant percentage of the US workforce and economy, it was because we all believed in the strength of the economy. so at the turn of the millenium the dot coms start to crash, it doesn't really affect most of the economy, consumers, buyers, sellers, etc, it was such a small percentage, but unfortunately it changed the perception of the consumers and that's why we were headed towards a recession. forget about all the other stuff you read. it's mostly about perception.
now, we have a chance to put all that behind us and focus on the task at hand, forget about perception, who cares how others define the "state of our economy" its really about us and the task we have at hand. our task is to rebuild, whatever means necessary and to carry on, if we focus on that and not on the "state of the economy" thing, we will overcome. we will come out of all this stronger than before.
don't let others fool you, underestimate you. You are the single most powerful force in the economy, not the government, not wall street, not the WTC, not the fortune 500 and definitely not the dot.coms but you the consumers.
good luck to us all.
