Don't most states make it illegal to tint/smoke your taillights?

Starting to see more and more of it here in SoCal. Not bothered by it too much but it does make it hard to see if someone is braking in the day time. This might be more of a concern for older people though.

Technically the law simply specifies a range of candlepower. If you put in brighter bulbs, you can smoke the lenses and still be legal, but with stock bulbs chances are that it does put you below the minimum light output (it's a Federal specification though, not one that varies by state).

i always thought brake lights have to be RED and reverse has to WHITE.

i think that is the only law.

that being so i tinted my turn signal and reverse lens to a smoke grey, but reverse still is white.

They can still be red even with a smoked lens over them.

Turn signals have to be either red or amber in addition to the brake light and reverse light regulations.

I wonder why they didn't just make turn lights amber. I hate it when some drivers like to tap their brakes and if they're in the lane over and I can't see the other side, it looks almost like a signal.

It's not in style anymore. Amber turn signals went out with the 90s. There are actualyl companies that sell films and paints to "red out" rear lights and get rid of the amber. Personally it doesntr bother me too much but that's how it is I guess.
