For all you married guys (& others who don't have sole control of the checkbook)....
I was planning to upgrade my system, and build a NAS server for storing videos of my kid due in June. I spec'd it out, but made a critical error. I showed the list to my wife, and she asked about each piece I was planning on buying. Now, she's got her Master's in CompSci, so she's not clueless when it comes to computers. She nit-picked every little part, until finally I got so fed up I said f*** it. I'm just going to have to wait and hope to do it right next time.
So what's the right way? Next time, I'm going to only do one thing with her: agree on a budget. Once I know how much I can spend without arguement, then I'll buy whatever the hell I want. That's my advice. Anyone been in similar situations?
EDIT: Whoohoo 100 posts! Only took me 2.5 years!
