Don't make my mistake!

Just wanted to warn you guys. I was going to get an iPod, but got talked into trying out a Sansa e280 instead. What a mistake. I have spent dozens of hours trying to get it to work properly - no banana. I followed all the instructions, updated firm/software, etc. It will show files as being processed in the offficial Rhapsody UI, but when you go to use it, they aren't there! And now my player is somehow swapping and deleting files on its own, and showing crazy unreadable characters. Turns out this is REALLY common. Out of desperation I went to the Rockbox site, and even that is having issues.
Anyway, I really regret not getting an iPod. Before this mess I had an iPod for 4 years - did what it was advertised to do - no hassles.

Maybe it's just defective? A certain percentage of those are DOA as well. Exchange the Sansa first before you make up your mind. My Sansa 280 does quite well with rockbox and was fine with standard fw as well. But also the sansas are generally made for those looking for a cheap no frills players. If you want more slickness then you shouldn't have gotten one in the first place.

What the hell? Dude, you don't need to install any Rhapsody bullshit - just plug the damn thing in and use WMP to transfer your music.

I have a Sanza View....love it, plug in use explorer to transfer files like a hard disk drive, and it works like a champ, no Itunes BS, no Windows Media player...etc...

I had two ipods, both broke just after a year, I had to use awful, awful iTunes....I then had a Sansa e260 for a few years, it was fantastic in comparison, and now I have a Zune, which is also lightyears ahead of the iPod.

Don't make the mistake that millions of others make. Get something that's not an iPod.

Can't you use the Sansa with drag and drop? Just change the transfer protocol to UMT or whatever it is and copy your music over.

You have to use itunes to transfer files to ipod. THAT IS THE HASSLE.

There are more programs for syning an iPod than ANYTHING. One day i was bored and looking for a new syning solution, I saw about 20 in my first 2 minutes of looking. If you have an iPhone or Touch you can hack it pretty easily to sync wirelessly via Winamp even

you could always get a Zune as some in here have suggested, the Zune software is wonderful *coughCOUGHcough* and it's not like you're tied into HAVING to use it *coughCOUGHcough*

iPod Touch > * it's not even a question. Jailbreak it and put Pockettouch on it and the biggest complaint haters have "no hardware buttons to control musics! you have to look at teh screens!!!" I can control the tracks + volume + play/pause with the screen, in my pocket, without looking at it.

I like my Sansa, personally. Not to mention I payed about 40% of what it would have cost to get the competitive (and inferior, specs/capacity-wise) ipod.

I have a zune 30 GB but when I wanted to upgrade to a 120 GB model i went for an iPod. One of the features that won me over was Genius. I love the playlists it makes for me and I don't have to make my own all the time.

I thought this was spam at first. 😀

I have cheapo 2GB $25 shipped Sansa e250r's and they have been great. micro-SD slot for extra storage, everything works fine, and battery life is very good. I probably get a Zune if I wanted more features and storage.

Yeah, you know what, I was a massive iPod hater for years. I have Creative MuVo, Zen, Zen Sleek, Sansa Clip, you name it. I buckled and got an iPod and I've never looked back.

iTunes? It's easy, doesn't do anything wrong and great for podcasts and purchased music. The player is fantastic for what I use it for; A 60Gb jukebox for my car with full OEM Nav and steering wheel control integration.

You can shit on iPods all you like, but they are popular for a reason. Hating them just because they are dominant is pretty dumb. IMHO.

I went the other way. I started with iPods, found better alternatives, and haven't looked back. I don't hate iPods because they're dominant. I hate iPods because, in my experience, they are of lesser quality than their competitors, for more money.

It's weird that you are having so many problems with the Sansa. I've had one for over 3 years now (Sansa e260 v1). It's been so trouble free that I got my kids Sansas for Christmas. They love theirs. So either you have a defective item or you are doing it wrong - somehow.

I bought the View the same day it hit the shelves around here, the only store that carried them had a huge, bad batch. They all froze on me after 1-5 songs.
I went out and bought the Creative Zen, which IMO is slightly better.
My friend has a View, and I finally saw a non-defective one hands on. It's not bad, controls are better than the Zen's, but the audio quality isn't as great, and the screen seems a generation older.
