If, however, Dean is nominated, he will be an anti-war candidate of a party most of whose national leaders ? Gephardt, Kerry, Edwards, Lieberman, Daschle, Clinton ? voted for war. The last Democrat to take so vivid an anti-war stand was George McGovern in 1972.
(and we know what happend there)

Second, Dean's call for repeal of the Bush tax cuts will make him, for the purposes of GOP campaign commercials, the pro-tax candidate. Lieberman is already on tape predicting a "Dean Depression." Democrats have not nominated a tax-raiser since Walter Mondale in 1984, and like McGovern, he, too, lost 49 states.

So cancelling a proposed tax cut or allowing one to expire is a tax raise? That must be the fuzzy math GWB talked about.

I am going to ralph if Jeb Bush decides he wants to be coronated as well. Can we get Neil into the mix as well?

Clinton won in 1992 and 1996 with a policy that included tax increases and fiscal responsibility. At least that's how I remember it.

Neil has to many issues.

1. His long going affair with his mothers assistant, which didnt come to light until after he divorced his wife.
2. I believe there were those savings and loan scandels in the mid-late 80's and Neil was implicated, never charged in some of them.

Yes, a tax cut is already done so to "cancel" you will be raising taxes. Allowing them to expire is not though since that was built in.

My recollection was that he ran on a program of fiscal responsibility. As best as I can recall, tax increases were never mentioned although the "analysts" had quite an argument going as to whether the proposed plans would require tax increases. Can anyone recall a specific tax increase that was advocated by any recent candidate? I think it's considered a "political third rail" just like cutting social security benefits.

Yeah - he definately didn't run on a tax increase platform like McGovern and Mondull did.

lol, were you born yesterday? This kind of manipulation is done EVERY DAY. Remember when they would say that welfare roles were reduced years ago? Actually, they still got higher, but at a slower rate. Yet, everyone believes that less people were actually on welfare.
