(dont know where to put this) minor surface scratches on ipod

i was lazy and i didint get a case and ended up getting some minor surface scratches on my ipod screen (you cant even feel them). anyway to get the scrathes out??? thanx

toothpaste works on glasses and watches. not sure what the ipod material is but usually something like that takes care of it. they even make stuff specifically for it.(not sure of the brand name)

The front side of it is lexan, not glass or quartz. I am also afraid to put anything on it in fear that it might hurt the lexan or touch-sensitivity.

I recommend using your warranty (if you bought an extended one) and returning it for a spankin' new shiny one.

the battery started acting up on mine (iPod 2) and I took it back no problems for a new one.

i just bought it a few days ago, i dont want to abuse the warrenty by sending it to apple just cuz i got a scratch on it

Good for you man, god forbid should you effect Apple's bottom line, after all they are practically giving away Ipods and PCs as it is.

Good for you man, god forbid should you effect Apple's bottom line, after all they are practically giving away Ipods and PCs as it is.

regardless of whether or not apple is losing money, i dont want to take the time to go to the post office and pay for shipping just for a few minor scratches. also, i doubt that minor wear and tear is covered by their warrenty...

As e-phex stated, Toothpaste. When I was a kid, I worked in a Marina part time, and we used Toothpaste to get the scratches out of Boat windows, and many of them were of some kind of plastic.

Toothpaste and brasso are, of course, fine abrasives. I use them to repair CD's that have scratches on them and they work very well for that.

But I don't know if I would use them for this, the polycarbonate (I think thats the word) plastics used on cd's are very tough. But even then the plastic never clears out as much as it was when it was new.


Personally I would clean it out very well. (Dirt and fine dust get trapped in sctratches making them look much worse then they realy are) Then apply a clear automotive wax to it, and leave it like that.

I wouldn't bother with polishing compounds unless the screen was realy marked up.

never damaged the cds i tried it on. made them rip in eac. i think it works.
