Don't know where the problem is

Oh boy ths is frustrating...
I have a Netgear WGR614 v6 wireless G router. Wireless with my laptop works quite well...not many problems, just a hiccup here and there.

On the wired PC however....
I'm getting a ton of webpages not loading, very long loads which usually end up as errors in loading. Having trouble signing onto aim and msn and such.

Here's a list of what I've replaced so far (in order of occurrence):
Windows XP Pro SP2 -> Windows Vista Ultimate
Switched ethernet port on the router (from position 1 to position 2)
Switched routers with my old Netgear wireless B router
Switched back to wireless G router
Network adapter (from onboard ethernet port to a new pci D-link NIC)
Network cable from the router to my pc

however none of them have fully solved my troubles. After installing the new D-Link everything was loading very well for about 10 minutes, then ****** hit the fan again and I've had trouble logging into my router (and moving about in the router options) and loading webpages and such.

I figure since my wireless is still working quite well the coax cable to the modem, and the ethernet cable from the modem -> router shouldn't be the problem.

WTF is going on here. It was working all fine and dandy until about I guess 2 or 3 months ago. And just recently I've noticed that it's gotten worse (even more pages not loading than before). After a few minutes I'll get a burst of internet stability, but it'll just happen again soon afterwards.

well i think I've narrowed down the culprit to my bittorrent client.

Just now I was googling something after having started up my bittorrent client for a download, and it completely stalled the google search. Once I stopped the torrent and reloaded, google loaded without a problem.

I've been running my torrent program for the most part on default settings for as long as I can remember except things like download and upload bandwidth limits, and have never had any problems until just recently it seems. I have no idea how it got to the point that it would completely screw with my regular internet browsing activities.

Anybody experienced any similar problems and have some setting tips?

is file sharing disabled in bittorrent? if not, mabye you have a real popular file(s) that are causing you alot of traffic. it doesn't sound like a hardware issue.

hmm not sure where to check it file sharing is on. I use BitComet, and have limited my global upload bandwidth to a total of 5kb/sec, and no limit to my download, but it still seems to stall a lot of my internet browsing. It seems my max limit is about 3 torrents (with quite a low number of people that i'm connected to and are connected to me), while still having a manageable amount of browsing. When I turn off all of my torrents, then everything for the most part runs smoothly.

I do see though in the options, that there are options for enabling the DHT network, enabling NAT/Firewall configuration in ICS/ICF, and Enable UPnP port mapping. Not sure what those options are, but they are checked by default, and the latter two say Windows XP Only. Not sure if maybe any of those are causing the problems since I don't really fully know what those are.
