"Lightscribe" is a technology which permits the laser head
to "etch" an image on the top surface of compatible optical media,
e.g. for labeling purposes.

Check Newegg.com for good deals on DVD writers: http://www.newegg.com

Samsung and Asus are supposedly good. I have an Asus and it doesn't sound like a jet when I burn something... FWIW.

lite-on drives tend to be the best and most reliable drives around. if the one you want doesnt have the exact feature set you want, look to the sony drives. they are just rebranded lite-on drives

If you are interested in lightscribe you may want to check LG's drives too. I've had nothing but good experience with them so far. They are pretty fast, reliable and worked on every disc I've thrown their way. Lightscribe however is only in it's 1st generation. You'll need a lightscribe capable DVD-RW a lightscribe program and lightscribe discs to make it work and you can only draw on black and white, not to mention that the whole project is very time consuming.

If you need to know more on lightscribe visit their home page. http://www.lightscribe.com/

PS

It is said that the next generation of lightscribe media will be capable of color but it is most likely that current drives won't be able to take advantage of this.
