A GT 610 (not GTX, not that it matters a whole lot) isn't a great gaming card, but it might help play video. Whether it's compatible evidently depends on your form factor, and the specific GT 610 you're using. If your desktop is small-form-factor, is it small-form-factor? Does it have a small-form-factor bracket? If you have the "ultra small form factor", there's no place to fit it. It should work with the other sizes fine.

ive already got that sorted thanks to your lovely forum 😛
WWYBYWB? :colbert:

Let's step back a second.

What are you hoping to accomplish with this upgrade? In other words, what isn't your computer doing well enough now that you're hoping to address?

We were deploying Optiplex 745s at FedEx back in 2006-7. They were not wonderful machines - Celeron D, Pentium D, or Core 2s.

But they had a little bit of PSU headroom and PCI-E, so you could probably go a little higher in the GPU department. Radeon 7750 maybe?

If you had one of the Core 2 Duo models, I guess you could still get some use out of it, depending on your wants and needs - and yes, even a GeForce 610 would be a slight step up in graphics - particularly if you were using it as an HTPC and raw brute power was less important than a modern feature set (video decoding and stuff.)

Using a single-core processor (Celeron D) in this day and age is not good happy times. In that case I would probably recommend selling plasma until you can afford a better rig. (That's not a joke, it paid for about half of the laptop I'm typing this on.)
