alright, i have been focusing on other components of my new pc and now its time to tackle the video card.

what is good nowadays? ti4600, ti4400, ti4200, radeon 8500 128????

maximum quality for the money. what do guys think??

go for the GeForce4 Ti 4200 those thing are awsome for how cheap they are. I'm broke and im considering buying one of those beauts. Id also go for the 64 mb version its cheaper and performs better than the 128 mb model in almost all the benches i've seen due to its highier mhz ram.

all of the above is available except for gf4ti4200. i think the 4200 will come out sometime in may at 64mb ver - $179 & 128mb ver - $199. correct me if im wrong.

As much as i want one of those gf4's I'll probably wait for nvidia's next release. Always playing the waiting game.

when is that gunna be? and how much will it be?

should i get the 4200 now and then get the new one later?

i suggest getting the 4200 now and wait 2-3 generations of chipsets before getting a new one. it is very powerful already for todays requirements.

I am personally going with the Geforce 4 TI4200 best bang for the buck looks highly O\Cable also

I think you should get a Ti 4200 or 4400 (the PNY version is only $250) now and wait about 2 generations and get another. I'm guessing that the 2nd generation of Voodoo based cards should be very nice. They will probably have to work out a few kinks for the 1st generation.

GeForce4 Ti 4200, but like someone mentioned. The PNY GF4 Ti 4400 is already down to $235 at Newegg and that's not half bad, so if you don't want to wait for the Ti 4200, then go for the PNY Ti 4400.

ok, with all this said, does manufacurer reall matter? i know about abillion places make gf4 cards......are they all the same?

Unless you are wanting to blow a load . . . . of money, wait a little and go for a Ti4200 (assuming you are willing to OC). If you got money to burn, go for the ti4600 or the 128mg 8500. I'd suggest the 4200 though.

Performance-wise, it doesn't really matter who the manufacturer is.
For example, all GF4 Ti4400's running stock speeds will bench almost exactly the same.

The difference is in reliability, features, software bundle, and overclocking ability.
Look around and read some reviews.

There's some info and benchmarks on the GeForce4 lineup and a couple of Radeon's at Tom's Hardware

If you don't care what the price is, go for a Ti4600. If you want to save a few dollars, go down to 4400 or wait for 4200.

Go NVIDIA if you want sheer performance and compatibility.. they make (arguable by some) the best video cards you can buy no questions asked.

Up until I saw this card, I was going to recommend the ati radeon 8500. I was planning on getting myself one as well. But the price/performance ratio on the 4200 looks damn good. I've never had any compatibility problems with the geforce cards and I run a geforce sdr now so I may stick with them. Sorry ATI. Unless they drop the price on the 8500's when the ti4200 comes out.

If money is no object then a GF4 Ti4600 is the way to go.

The best bang for buck ratio goes to the GF4 Ti4200.

Don't stop until you get a GeForce4 Ti4600. It is the highest performing videocard out right now. Prices are also starting to fall nicely and one is listed on pricewatch.com for $299 now.

Here are the core/memory speeds for 128mb versions:
Ti4600 300/650
Ti4400 275/550
Ti4200 250/444

you guys are a big help.

i think i will wait for the 4200 and wait to see if the 4600 goes down. i am not a heavy oc'er but for the money, the 4200 looks damn good.

thanks dudes!!

I'd say get the radeon 8500 all in wonder. Maybe wait until the 128mb version all-in-wonder comes out. I just like the capabilities. 🙂
