Let's see, walk down the toy aisle at Target on the way to the restroom today . . . GI Joe, Transformers, He-Man?!?, Star Wars . . .

Ye Gods, what's next, mullets and string ties?

well xerox i would bet serious money that gi joes were around long before you were born, so they aren't even yours. IIRC, they came out in the 40's or 50's. Legos are the best toys ever though. i don't know how long they've been around though

GI Joes in their current 3" plastic incarnation have only been out since the eighties. The bigger, cloth-wearing ones are older, you're right.

actually, i've seen "mullet dolls" for sale. obviously it's a joke, but there is seriously a "collect all 4" mullet doll series out there

Original toys? Actually, I built my daughter a dollhouse a few years back - complete with hardwood floors. I guess that would count as an "original" toy.

Some pictures of the dollhouse that I built - the pictures are in "Sepia" mode to look antique:

Dollhouse - Outside

Dollhouse - Inside

The hardwood floors were created by using popsicle sticks cut into random lengths and then sanded smooth and finished off with stain and polyurethane.

Transformers are the best!

toys, cartoons, and even comics are bringing the 80s back. Cartoon Network is going to be showing new episodes of He Man and even a new Transformer series. They are already showing GIJoe.

It is kinda wierd that this is the stuff I grew up with and now its back. Sort of :)

There are new toys out there, but you will always see the classics predominantly displayed in stores. You also have to factor in that parents like to buy their children what they played with. I buy my older son Hot Wheels all the time, and I look forward to when he reaches the minimum age for Legos.

Nice dollhouse wje.

With two sons I hope that I am never called upon to build either of them a dollhouse :Q

Actually, the dollhouse consumed pretty much all of my "free" time for a period of about three months. I did enjoy the process since it was for my daughter. However, I don't think I could apply the same effort or have the same appreciation if I were making one for someone else.

I've moved onto bigger and better projects. Here's a pic of my entertainment center that I built two years ago: Entertainment Center

Thanks for all of your comments on the dollhouse.
