What's a Sheetz?

What I take in the morning after my second coffee? :p

EDIT: Apparently it's some kind of convenience-store?

A damned good convenience store. Wawa comes out ahead, but I'm happy to see a sheetz in my travels.

What part of the country are they mainly in?

EDIT: Nevermind.... per Google:

"Sheetz operates approximately 670 convenience stores throughout six states: Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. In its stores, Sheetz sells everything from made-to-order salads to freshly baked goods to discount cigarettes."

Legal discrimination is simply treating a protected class different than other on the face of the situation. The "mindset" of the person is mostly or entirely irrelevant. While in the past, mindset and "legal" discrimination came hand-in-hand, that is not the case these days.

As this is official policy, this could indeed open a can of worms. An argument per quod is that poor dental hygiene is to lack of access to dental care due to being low income and not getting employment benefits from a previous job. Or due to low income, the individual is stuck eating cheaper grains because healthier foods are simply more expensive.

I also get why the policy is there...a customer seeing someone with shitty teeth will naturally be repelled and then project the negative reaction to everything else in the store; they may not return or leave negative reviews complaining about hygiene and sanitation.

See the problem I have with Sheetz and Wawa is that I find them both one dimensional. The difference between the two isn't that great to me and the price difference between the two is negligible. Don't get me wrong I like them both but I'm not super particular about either one. My go to has to be Becks though it's a local place here in the Midwest that is hard to beat for the price.

I used to like a bacon, egg and cheese Shmuffin with a vanilla cappuccino with extra vanilla creamers. Their Philly cheese steaks weren't bad either.

My solution if I were Sheetz would be to make a deal with a prospective employee that has dental problems. Sheetz would pay for the dental work if the employee contracts to stay with them for a year. Sheetz would hold back a nominal fee from their salary. If the employee stays for the year they get the fee back. If the employee leaves or is fired for cause then they forfeit the fee. Problem solved.

crap, my daughter would never get a job there. :p (as if)

It's all about being presentable though, so, no problem with the policy. Like a dress code.

And then you have the exceptions to the rule.

Sheetz is just a fucking convince store with probably 20+ gas pumps, and the biggest sellers are scratch off tickets, and bud lite.

Also keep in mind that to have nice/perfect teeth, you need access to dental care. Which usually isn't covered by normal health insurance. Which means paying out of pocket. Which means you need extra money. So applicants coming from poverty or borderline are more likely to be impacted, and they're also the ones who want/need that job.

A smile has nothing to do with how respectfully you treat a customer. So while the policy doesn't discriminate against protected classes, it is a policy that favors, in some degree, wealth. Because having nice teeth isn't cheap.
