It has to be somebodies job to think about what people would do. We all have stupid moments because we are HUMANS. When 300 tons of metal is moving at 55mph it is up to SOMEBODY to think about what could happen.

If there is a habitual problem of people going around the arm, maybe they should make longer to prevent this. Just an idea.

I agree. They should also time the tracks so only 1 train goes by a crossing at a time. I have no idea how complicated that is but I think it should be done.

I'm sure one could just drive right through one of those arms. It's purpose is not to physically stop cars from being able to go, it's to discourage from going. Most people will see the flashing lights and stop, some may want to go, but they see the arm and don't want to scratch their car, then there's the idiot in a hurry drivers that will go right around other vehicles to try to beat the arm or go around it.

What are they suppose to do, have huge concrete walls that come up? People need to start using common sense instead of depending on others for their safety.

I really hope the rail road does not get into any kind of trouble, nor get forced to make any chances, because it's not even remotely their fault. According to the picture that setup looks like it goes beyond what a typical crossing is. They even have those top "towers" with the lights and everything. You can't miss it.

Q: Are gates down?
If yes, do not go.
If no, proceed.

That's it. Beyond that, stupidity will take care of itself.

we are all stupid at times. We shouldn't die for having a momentary lapse of reason.

But thats how atot is. Anytime there is a horrible accident based on human error it was deserved :\

Some young girl walks into a propeller and all of a sudden everyone must come out to talk about how dumb she is, well I've got news for you, some of us are going to die and be injured horribly in an accident that was avoidable too.

When I lived in washington dc one of my co-workers sons was decapitated in a accident involving a big rig at the ripe old age of 20. Did he deserve to die because he was in a accident with a big rig? He was too stupid to not get into the accident?

I dont find it amusing at all when people talk like this as we all live in that glass house.

Was this right near a turn on the tracks? I don't even understand how this happens. I mean, if you are going to try cutting around, couldn't you at least look both ways and yield if it was close? It doesn't take more than a few seconds to clear train tracks.

There are big cement sound barriers up so you don't have visibility.

They weren't in front, they had to pass another car to even get to the tracks so it is doubtful they took the time to look both ways.

The problem isn't multiple trains with no break for cars, just fucking wait for the trains to pass and the gate to lift, who cares if there is more than one. The only person at fault here is the driver of that car, and they paid for it.

There was a train crossing like this near where I went to college, was two sets of tracks and sometimes you'd get two trains going at the same time, and if they were a little off, one would start right as the other ended and you had to wait for both. Wasn't a big deal took maybe an extra 3min. The fucked up thing was that you could get stuck in between the two sets of tracks

------------track
car
------------track

that shit was crazy.

This world is too protective of stupid people. Why do you think there are silly warnings such as not using a blow dryer in a shower, or not using your genitals to stop a chain saw? I think it's good that once in a while stupid people die from their stupid actions. It sets an example for everyone else to not be so stupid in those situations.

It's sad to see people die, but they brought it to themselves if they died doing something stupid. Unfortunately though, lot of time they take others' lives with them, such as this case. :(

Bwahahaha. Yeah, they *should*. They should time the release of tractor trailers so I don't have to wait behind two of them passing each other on the highway, with one traveling 1 mph faster than the other.

The problem is his passengers paid too.

I know it's not the point of your post, but 300 tons is probably closer to the weight of just the locomotives on a freight train. Around here they often go through with at least 2 locomotives, sometimes more.
Then they'll be pulling several thousand more tons behind them.

It's not quite like a soda can vs a car. It's more like a june bug vs a car.

There is no should or shouldn't in the path of a moving train. Just physics. That's why the nice railroad folks installed the crossing gate with ringing bells and flashing lights.

I grew up in this backward hick town disguised as a city and I am only surprised this doesn't happen more. Of all the places I've lived I have never encountered a larger concentration of stupid people.
