ie: instead of $1000 to charities, hire a landscapper to make your backyard look better.

I agree with this. If you have a lot to give to charity, you could find a lot of ways to actually help others, and get something in return.

Wouldn't giving to a charity secure at least 2 jobs instead of one?

Give to charity who needs to hire someone to take care of money who then uses money to hire someone for some service.

IE you give to a youth center who has an administrator and who can use it to hire someone to mow their lawn.

This might work if the charities people were giving to were involved in helping Mexican illegal immigrants. Not sure flying someone in from Japan to paint my fence would help the tsunami victims much.

I remember it wasn't long ago there was a news that an old man hired a dude to do some house chores and the dude came back with a couple more friends to rob his house

Makes a lot of sense. I provide more assistance to people, and support local businesses/people, when I hire individuals to to complete services. Doesn't matter whether its mowing my yard, house work, installing an appliance, fixing my car, etc. All these things are more beneficial than donating to a lot of charities.

While many charities are scams, if you go grassroots you are bound to find one that your money will go directly to and not have a lot of monkeys making 6 figures to manage it.

Personally I give a lot of animal charities. Usually in just buy a fuckload of food at a pet store and dropping it off anonymously.

I am changing that up though. Things are getting too expensive. I have about 50 shirts and 20 or so slacks to drop off with about 2-10 wearings. Like new stuff, need more tax deductions. I will still give food and newspaper (fuck! I only get the non-sunday paper to just hand it over to shelters).

I dont have a problem with giving to charities. I have a problem with the ridiculous amount of harassment if you are stupid enough to let them find you.

Thats why I prefer cash in a bucket or envelope. No names. In fact many of them arent even interested in money the first time they talk to you. They want some basic contact info so they can harass you constantly for years. And they also give away your info to other groups and that just starts a cascade effect.

In theory its supposed to be illegal but I've been called way too much at home for that to be the reality.

So paying a Mexican to mow my lawn is a better, more efficient way to help cancer kids than is donating money to a leukemia charity?

I learn something new on ATOT, every day.

seriously, how much are you giving to charities when you are also posting you haven't been laid in 3 years or more. Personally, most of the people I know donately a bit end up out and about and under or over or behind or in front or ... someone else at the end of the night.

I have grown tired over hearing this excuse. If you want to give you need to search them out yourself...if you are not doing that, you aren't interested to begin with.

There are many scams out there, but if you REALLY want to give you can find real ones.
