These cpu's are fragile to say the least gonna be a fun couple of months reading all the complaints of dead cpu's.

in before the obligatory "I thought I could put 1.6V in it 24/7"...responses..or the " I only pushed the baseclock a little"..

Imo, the chips will not turn out to be fragile, its probably a little of these initial bios's where some settings are leading to 1.6v, as mentioned in Hocp's asus review.
I did have some difficulties with the vCore settings scaling a bit too high in "manual" mode in the BIOS. I hand set the vCore to 1.40v and I would get 1.64v actually. Reporting back to ASUS, this was not supposed to be happening. Moving my vCore setting to "offset" mode I could figure out where I needed to be to hit my vCore target properly. I suspect this will be fixed in the next version of the BIOS, but it is worth mentioning since ASUS was not sure what was happening, so make sure you check your vCore.

I just upgraded to the Beta bios for my IV and it's A LOT more stable then the one from November. Leave PLL Overvoltage on auto for now. If you're going for 5Ghz enable it.

How is it behaving so far? This is UEFI, right? That might be a factor. After all, new mobo/chipset is a big deal, throw in a completely new CPU and process generation, and THEN toss in the first major change in the PC BIOS since like.... EVER!

It's a potential perfect storm for teething problems, is all I'm saying.

Sheesh, I'm going to be very cautious at first - this is a brand-new platform, after all. I may be looking for a BIOS update for my Asus P8P67 before I even THINK about running beyond stock.

This is a good post, if simply as a warning that this is all brand-new and not to be trifled with.

This is also a great quote from a gent in Leeds in the same thread:

You're welcome mate.. Also don't overclock until your thermal paste has cured and leave the pc running on and off for a week before attempting to overclock is also my advice that way allows the components to wear in slowly and not get a sudden shock when you overclock. Also this will allow you a week to rule out any problems with the pc that may crop up under stock settings (ruling out if it's an unstable overclock causing the problems).

@Castiel

ahh, more good info

Still waiting to buy my 2600K - need it from somewhere that doesnt charge tax which is 10% for me $33. I can afford it, but I would rather give my money to charity than the disfunctional state gov.

@ Dadofamonkey
EFI is a big nothing - just big HDD and partitioning code, strictly Win7 X64
Gigabyte doesnt even have all the fancy graphics
P67 EFI bios also has DOS MBR partitioning code
if you pick GPT option box during Win 7 X64 install you get EFI, if you dont, you get MSDOS MBR

Blown away by how much more snappy it feels then my 760 was. Original bios was alittle funky but this new one seems very nice
