today i was listening to the Volcom Pipeline Pro and they had 3 guys in the booth doing the webcast.
Gerry Lopez is like the Babe Ruth of surfing Pipeline.
so it was him, some Volcom marketing guy, and the normal surf announcer guy.
so the announcer asked Gerry Lopez what his worst wipeout is.
Gerry said it's pretty graphic, maybe you don't want to know.
so they talked about the contest for a moment, then the announcer brought it up again.
in 10' surf (20 foot faces breaking on the Pipe Reef in at best 3 feet of water), he was out for a "warm-down" after a contest.
and somehow his board flipped.
and he landed on it. anal pore on surfboard fin.
as in SURF FIN UP BUTT situation.
and this was when they used single fins, and the fins were BIG (9" long").
after landing on the upside down surfboard butt first, the wave landed on him.
but that's only about half the story.
the rest is grosser.
